Kenan wants a special mountain bike for Christmas, but a stint as a mall Santa causes a conflicting feeling.
Kicking things off with a usual stage performance, Kel says the episode is special, and when Kenan says they all are and that he doesn't feel the spirit, Kel has workers provide snow.
To Kenan's surprise, his guess about a one-horse open sleigh next is correct, though the "horse" is another worker. Kenan leaves in the sleigh and the episode begins. Kel is hanging up Christmas ornaments with the Rockmores, though his Roger halts him from adding his "decorations," which are cans of orange soda. He goes to the kitchen to show Kenan, who is busy staring longingly at an ad for a "Road Blazer Deluxe Elite" mountain bike, which has multiple great components. He says it'll be his Christmas present, as he's saved up all year for it. Kel asks what he'll be getting his friends and family if he spends all his money this way, and Kenan simply wonders what color he should get the bike in. Against Roger's wishes, Kel rushes to put the star on top of the tree, causing it to collapse and Roger, with the star on his head, to chase him out. Later at the store, Kenan bags up groceries for Mrs. Quagmire, who becomes excited about Christmas, saying she loves carols. Though Kenan doesn't want her to, she decides to get into "The 12 Days of Christmas." When she quickly forgets her place, Kenan says she's on the 12th day, then speeds her along with erronous lyrics and pushes her out the door. Chris comes in with a life-size mechanical Santa Claus he found in the back, but Kenan says he's on break to avoid helping set it up. He instead goes out back, where he finds Kel and Mrs. Quagmire in the alley belting out "Jingle Bells" around a garbage fire. As Kel asks about the bike that Kenan is still staring at, the latter shrugs off Chris again when the man asks for help plugging in the Santa. He finally gets it plugged in, and the Santa springs to life, grabbing Chris in a bear hug as Kenan tells Kenan to come to the store with him to see the bike. Mrs. Quagmire is still singing in the alley, and two kids come in to cheer on Santa as he pummels Chris.
At the store, Kenan and Kel admire the bike, and a salesman comes by. Kenan says he isn't ready to buy yet, and the man suggests he hurry since Christmas is coming.
He says he can't just keep the bike until Kenan does have the money, but agrees to get a hold slip when Kenan offers a $100 down payment. Kenan sweet talks the bike, and Kel convinces Kenan to give it a sit. He happily does so until the salesman returns, saying he can't do so until it's paid for, and Kel has to pry him off. Not judging the excited boy, the salesman has Kenan sign and leaves again, and Kel suggests they go to the toys so Kenan doesn't start drooling again. There, Kel is excited to see the half-tuba half-telephone "tubaphone," which of course Kenan thinks is just strange. A nearby Santa gets a visit from a grumpy boy named Santa, who rudely asks for a real air force fighter jet. The boy becomes angry and punches Santa when the latter laughs at this, and the fat man is dragged away as the parents and kids become angry. The manager finds Kenan and Kel in a desperate search for Santa; he offers Kenan $200 when he at first disagrees, which gets the man his new Santa.
Kenan and his elf Kel step out as the mob of people demands Santa's presence. The first boy wants a tubaphone, and when Kel says Kenan is good at this job, the latter says it's a lot easier than his usual one, too.
Speaking of Rigby's, over at the store another screaming for Santa has formed, but this one is cheering on the animatronic as is continues to beat up Chris. A girl comes to Kenan and the woman with her explains she's from a strange country and doesn't speak English, but the girl had told her the real Santa would understand. Kenan stops the woman and surprisingly speaks to the girl in her strange language, even singing a bit of "Jingle Bells" together. A boy named Daniel steps up, and to Kenan's confusion and surprise, he doesn't want anything; he merely wants to ask for a bike for his sister Katie. He explains that Katie's bike was stolen and his mom can't afford to buy a new one, so Kenan assures him he'll do his best. After a hug from Katie, the kids rush off and their mom introduces herself to Kenan; she admits that she doesn't have the money to buy them a bike. Kenan and Kel are upset, especially when she says she'll find an excuse like that Santa got lost. She then bids them a Merry Christmas and leaves. Kenan and Kel go back to Rigby's, where the latter suggests Kenan play Santa all year round, and the former says he's still worried about those two kids from the store. Chris arrives with Kenan's paycheck, and Kel reminds him he can now buy the mountain bike. Kenan leaves, though Chris isn't happy to be alone with Kel. With money in hand but his thoughts lingering on Katie and Daniel, Kenan is torn as the episode reaches its conclusion.
This is another story like we saw with Chowder where the main character desperately wants something, only for a more righteous cause to come along.
Like Danny in my last post, Kenan starts this episode off pretty selfish, not even caring when Kel points out he won't have money to get anything for his friends and family if he buys the mountain bike he wants. He actually doesn't even participate in decorating the tree with them, as he was too busy obsessing about the bike to spend time with his loved ones. The last sign we see of this comes at the store, where the manager needs someone to fill in as Santa, and Kenan is completely against the idea until the payment comes in. Obviously he should be compensated for doing a job for the store, but at the same time, it was his sole factor for playing a character known for his charity and kindness. Kel, as the always more childish character, has his own excitement with the tubaphone, and though he noticed how Kenan was behaving, he too isn't free of fault, as he was also against the Santa idea until money was brought in. He's still much more festive throughout the episode, entertainingly joining the strange Mrs. Quagmire in singing carols outside the store. As is typical for a Nickelodeon sitcom, especially one from Dan Schneider, the characters are rather over-the-top silly and dramatic in their performances. The first little girl who visits Kenan is wearing clothes from foreign countries, and her "language" is of course just a bunch of gibberish made to sound real. We also see the silliness with the boy who punched Santa, as the whole time he's ridiculously serious and talks in a strange way. The lesson for the episode is rather straightforward, but that's because it's a Christmas classic, and it's nice to see the spirit of giving around this time.
