Dead by Daylight is bringing the Christmas cheer with its latest event, "Winter Solstice," released in combination with its 1.8.3 patch.
The Entity decided to get festive to make its maps dark and cold for the survivors, decorating with snow and Christmas lights. Along with Christmas lights for hooks and boxes, according to the Dead by Daylight wikipedia, the killers have an all-new "Frosty Eyes" look, similar to the previous "All Hallows' Eyes." The event coincides with the 1.8.3 patch, which did massive work to the Wraith, who has been unpopular due to having more negative than positive aspects. The Wraith carries a bell that turns him invisible when rung, increasing his speed and making him only a shimmer to the survivors. This makes him useful for giving the survivors a spook, but doesn't help much when trying to sacrifice them to the Entity. While invisible, the Wraith cannot attack and could not destroy pallets, requiring that he become visible again to strike. Entering and exiting invisibility takes time and slows the Wraith, giving survivors time to run, and his bell's ring and cloaking whoosh could be heard anywhere on the map. Invisibility can also be risky for the Wraith, as it connects him to the Spirit World, like the Nurse's teleport, allowing him to be burned, rather than blinded, by flashlights. When combined, these negative effects made it easy for survivors to escape the Wraith or stop him from doing anything successfully. With the update, much of this has been changed, like cloak and de-cloak speed and how much the Wraith can do while invisible. According the Dead by Daylight wikipedia, the updated Wraith's cloak and de-cloak happens faster, and he recovers faster when burned by a flashlight. He can also interact more while invisible, able to kick generators and check lockers for survivors, becoming visible during the animations for each. Even his bell has been changed, as its ring and his cloak's whoosh now have a limited range, preventing survivors to know his visibility status unless he is near. While not likely to make the Wraith everyone's new favorite, these updates are definite improvements, especially with the invisibility changes. The previous version could certainly surprise people, but with how they could immediately run from him, the invisibility could be a hindrance, as it could if a pallet was dropped in front of him and he had to de-cloak. The issue became especially noticeable after the release of Freddy Krueger, who is invisible to all until he pulls them into his dream world. While Freddy has to wait for the person to fall asleep, like the Wraith's cloaking delay, he is able to closely follow the survivor, rather than having to slow to almost a halt. The lockers were a similar problem for the Wraith, as part of the logic behind them is that, as a horror trope, people say not to hide in obvious spots, then do themselves. While at times, the killer might not think to search a locker, making it a good spot, hider risk immediate capture if found, rather than having to be hit twice and lifted. Because of the slow de-cloaking, a person hiding from the Wraith might be able to at least escape a locker and immediate capture. Now, however, some true terror can come back, especially if the person hiding doesn't know if the Wraith is invisible, as they won't know if they can safely leave but might not want to risk being caught. The patch included a list of bugs the developers worked on as well, and though there are many there and obviously many more, it's a good step to at least try to improve on existing issues, rather than ignoring glaring problems.

As of October 20, Pokemon Go has been updated to have a "Trick-or-Treat" event that will last until November 2.
The event causes ghost-type Pokemon and others with spooky designs to appear more to players. According to an article on Gamespot's website, this includes Cubone and Houndour, ghosts Gastly and Misdreavus and the newly introduced Sableye, Shuppet and Duskull. Other event bonuses include doubled candy rewards, special items available in the shop, a Halloween Pikachu and a hat of the Pokemon Mimikyu. With Sableye, Shuppet and Duskull involved, Niantic is also introducing the third generation of Pokemon from the series' Hoenn region and Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald games. This update comes only months after the second generation was added back in February, which some might see as moving too quickly. In an article on the Forbes website, writer Paul Tassi said the new Pokemon suffer from lack of popular awareness that even non-Pokemon fans had of the originals. While everyone knows Pikachu and Charizard, he said, those not as familiar with later Pokemon will not be as excited to raise a Nosepass or Zigzagoon. At the same time, there are likely still other areas of the game that could be improved or aspects that could be added before a whole generation of Pokemon are needed. The game's combat system is rather simplistic and suffers from lag issues and the possibility of stronger moves not working if the player's Pokemon is attacked while using them. The Halloween event will also bring in the "shiny" forms of different Pokemon, called so because they differ in color from their usual forms. This update likely could have raised excitement for the game without adding a whole new group of Pokemon, and adding not just these Pokemon, but also alternate forms of Pokemon, might cause bugs that need to be fixed later. While games have long had buggy problems, it's common for current games with massive multiplayer is recurring glitches and bugs that get little attention before creators move on to adding new content. One such game is Dead by Daylight, where some players still come across glitches as they play that range from momentary goofiness to lobby breaking. This includes getting stuck in objects, being launched into the air and leaving the map's boundaries rather than escaping in the end, which some YouTubers and streamers compile into videos, like player OchiDO. If Niantic hopes to retain excitement for Pokemon Go, creators need to make sure they balance adding new things to the game with maintenance and improving existing content. While there might still be issues with the game, I for one am excited for the event, as it gives me the opportunity to catch Pokemon I don't see as often. The chance to catch a special witch-hat-wearing Pikachu is also enticing, and possibly getting a new silly hat like my avatar's current Magikarp one is an entertaining idea. While "Dead by Daylight" worked on its new killer, the game "Friday the 13th" created a clothing pack dlc for its players. Released on Sep. 23, the Spring Break dlc gives players swimsuits for the camp counselors. A player's goal in the game is to either hide or escape, and survive, as a counselor from the "Friday the 13th" film franchise, or eradicate the counselors as Jason. To escape, counselors can call police and wait for help, repair a four-seater or two-seater car and drive away, or repair a boat to escape on the lake. Players can also use a radio to contact the character Tommy Jarvis, whom players can return as if they die or escape, equipped with a shotgun. Counselors also search cabins for medical spray, bear traps and weapons ranging from firecrackers and pocket knives to machetes and a shotgun. Jason comes equipped with abilities like teleportation and a "shift" that closes a short distance quickly, along with his super strength and over-the-top kills. While different counselors from the movies differ in stats like intelligence and composure when afraid, Jason's specialties also change. Players choose from one of seven Jason forms as he appeared in the movies, or new forms like "retro" Jason from the 1989 "Friday the 13th" game, "Bloody Jason," and actor Tom Savini's new "Savini Jason." The addition of the bikinis and swim trunks adds a nonsensical, but interesting step for the game about the iconic Jason terrorizing counselors at Camp Crystal Lake. As modern horror media tend to do, the game plays on horror tropes that were so commonplace in the past that now they are comical. The counselors come from the movies and their stats follow stereotypes, like the promiscuous Tiffany, preppy Chad and bookish Deborah. As such, the different swimsuits follow a similar pattern to match the stereotypical characters, with Tiffany in a micro bikini, Chad in a speedo and Deborah in a one-piece suit. The game has more than its fair share of bugs and glitches, with the possibility of counselors getting on rooftops or hitting a Jason home run with a baseball bat that ends the game by sending Jason out of the map. Despite these issues, however, the game has managed to remain a popular YouTube and Twitch streaming option, and the Spring Break dlc will only help the trend. From the outset, many players, including YouTubers like Bryce McQuaid and Ohmwrecker, played as Tiffany despite her low skill in tasks like rebuilding the car due to the abundance of jokes to be made about her being overly sexual. Others enjoyed mocking Chad for being a stereotypical rich snob, sporting a sweater on his shoulders and having an achievement named after him that requires players abandon friends by escaping alone. With the new swimsuit option, the creators are dipping into the jokes from the beginning, with emphasis put on Tiffany and Chad in the trailer for the dlc. While Tiffany gets multiple views as she dances, everyone stops and stares in awe as Chad strolls in with his speedo, ridiculously flexing before Jason throws a spear through his head. "Friday the 13th is rated 'M' for mature due to blood and gore, suggestive themes, strong language and intense violence.

The horror game "Dead by Daylight" has added a new character to its roster: Leatherface of the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre." Over a year since its initial release, the game has become a horror go-to for YouTubers and Twitch streamers. Players enter a creepy environment as one of 10 survivors trying to turn on generators and escape, or one of nine killers standing in their way. Once survivors have fixed enough generators, they must try to open one of two large doors and get to the exit. If only one player is left and enough generators were started, the player can instead escape with a trap door that appears on the ground. Killers, in service to a being called "The Entity," knock survivors to the ground and carry them to hooks to hang. If hanged, survivors can attempt escape, though failed attempts will cause The Entity to attack with spider-like appendages, making survivors struggle or face death. Other survivors can also help friends off the hook, but being hooked twice will prompt The Entity's attack, and a third time will be instant death. Most of the characters, while heavily based on famous horror villains and tropes, are original creations. Starting around Halloween of last year, some classics were added to give nostalgic chills. With its "The Halloween Chapter" downloadable content, players obtained Michael Myers and his sister, Laurie Strode. A later dlc's provided William "Bill" Overbeck of the "Left 4 Dead" games, and now the developers have brought out Leatherface and his classic chainsaw tantrums. The addition of Leatherface brings an interesting, terrifying skillset, but is a head scratcher for sure. One of the original available characters, the Hillbilly, is a clearly Leatherface-inspired character, bringing a chainsaw, hammer and cannibalistic backstory. While fans might wonder if Leatherface is merely a Hillbilly re-skin, his abilities thus far have shown him to work in a different tactical method. The Hillbilly is good for cross-map travel, revving his chainsaw before charging in a sprint that can knock down a player with one hit, rather than the two it would take his main weapon, a hammer. For Leatherface, the Chainsaw is meant for use once a survivor is close, and is swung in multiple wide arcs that can knock down numerous survivors in one attempt. A short trailer led up to Leatherface's reveal by showing the mask materials of other killers: bone for the Trapper, cloth for the Nurse, paper for the Huntress and skin for Leatherface. Dead by Daylight is rated M for mature due to blood, drug reference, intense violence, strong language and suggestive themes.
