With everything riding on everyone's next moves, Daredevil finishes strong with Matt giving Dex a call and Fisk facing some wedding crashers.
Fisk's plans continue to bring him success, with news stations convinced he was the victim of a smear campaign and reporting he's announced an event at the hotel.
Matt, meanwhile, has kidnapped Manning and forces him to reveal Fisk is going to marry Vanessa and soon become Hell's Kitchen's golden boy again. Fisk admits to Vanessa he never thought he could love someone like he does her, and at one point wondered if his feelings were a trick. She assures him that everyone is broken and looking for the person whose pieces fit theirs. Demanding to know where everyone will be, Matt tells Manning he's going to kill Fisk. The incredulous Manning gives no info, so Matt hangs him from the building's edge. The terrified Manning exclaims he could testify against, as he saw Vanessa order Nadeem's murder, and Fisk order Agent Winn's and Julie's, whom Matt asks about. Mahoney retrieves Manning later, and the man claims he fell as he is wheeled away. Foggy arrives, and Mahoney rages about how the plan failed and Nadeem died. Foggy reveals someone plans to kill Fisk, and reminds the callous detective that this would put corrupt agents back in the FBI. Mahoney is sure they'd be caught later, but agrees to pump up security, albeit with a C team, while Foggy tries to stop Matt. Hattley gives a press conference claiming Nadeem killed Winn and was later shot in self-defense when agents when to arrest him. Karen is enraged, and Foggy says Fisk is turning everyone's focus from Nadeem's testimony so they'll forget. While she's afraid for Matt and doesn't want him to kill Fisk, Karen states that Foggy shouldn't have told Mahoney, as Fisk's death might be the only option. Foggy says the old Matt returned before and faith is why he thinks everyone deserves a redemption shot. He'd never forgive himself if he killed Fisk, and they'd lose him. A call comes in from the FBI, and while they know it's a trap from Fisk, Foggy decides he has to go, as he can't live a fugitive's life.
Dex is surprised when Foggy shows up, but the lawyer takes a picture of them together to show everyone where he is, "helping."
Dex claims he's not in danger and will be a useful D.A., then brings up his relationship with Nadeem; Foggy refuses to say anything that would break client privilege. The agent leads him to a room where Seema Nadeem awaits; she explains she wants to help them investigate her "monster" of a husband. Dex and Hattley leave the room, the latter angry she has to do this, and as Seema tells Foggy she came when she heard the news, she writes that the FBI is listening. She says it was right to cooperate, but writes that she's saving Sami, then that Ray had an idea in his video, which Foggy circles to ask about. She slides him her phone and he promises to help her and Sami, and Matt gives Dex a call from Manning's phone to say he's coming for his suit. Ignoring Dex's suggestion to meet, Matt asks if he enjoyed killing the birds and if the feeling he got is why he continued, though it's not the same after. He brings up Mercer, but Dex shrugs it off, so Matt asks about Julie, angering and then shocking him when he says Fisk had her killed to replace her as Dex's "North Star." Dex says Matt won't get in his head but starts to go unhinged, and Matt, saying it doesn't matter if he believes him, suggests he go to 16 Canal Place, and hangs up. Foggy and Karen watch Nadeem's video from last episode; it turns out there was more to see, with Nadeem confessing to everything and naming everyone involved. Admitting the worst crime was allowing Dex, as Daredevil, to kill Lantom, he urges Seema to pretend to cooperate with the FBI and get the video to his attorneys. Karen says it might not be admissible but could make Fisk's life difficult; Foggy reveals that, as it's a dying declaration, the video IS admissible, and can take down Fisk.
Dex takes Matt's advice and goes to Canal Place, where he finds three corpses in a freezer, including Julie's. Listening from above, Matt calls and points out the signs Fisk did it; he says he's telling Dex because Fisk doesn't deserve a happy ending.
As Karen shows Ellison the video, Matt arrives at the hotel, and while listening to crime bosses, he hears Dex arrive in the Daredevil suit with Julie's body, beating Agent Lim. Fisk and Vanessa complete the wedding as Matt finds the bleeding Lim, and as the couple begins their first dance, everyone begins watching Nadeem's leaked video. Fisk sees the video and starts losing his cool despite Vanessa's words, and Hattley tells him, as we see with Matt's journey, that agents are down and Dex is coming. Onstage, Dex gives a snarky statement and hurls his microphone at Fisk, but Matt saves the Kingpin with a platter; guards begin shooting at both of them. Vanessa tries to convince a furious Fisk to run for now. Matt escapes as Dex beats the guards and wounds Hattley with a gunshot, then knocks her out with the empty gun. Karen meets Foggy outside the hotel, and inside Matt subdues guards in Fisk's secret room, telling Shelby to shut down the elevators. He goes upstairs, stopping Fisk from running, and as they fight, Vanessa tries to leave but finds Dex at the door. Matt rushes to her aid, then goes back to Fisk after the Kingpin hammers away at Dex, who drops the chandelier on them. Matt picks up two glass tubes from the mess and repeatedly deflects Dex's projectiles, then uses them like the clubs he's used to. Fisk sends Vanessa away, but having given her his armored coat, he takes hits when Dex hurls more knives at him, until Matt gets in the way. After Matt makes another miraculous block to save Vanessa, Fisk incapacitates Dex by slamming him into a wall, and the remaining weary combatants face each other. Glancing at Vanessa, Fisk surrenders to Matt, who mercilessly pummels his face until Vanessa begs him to stop. He does so and lets out an anguished scream; Fisk goads him saying he won't stop hunting his friends, and will reveal Matt's identity. Realizing Fisk wants him to do it, Matt ferociously declares that Fisk can't destroy who he is, and that he'll go back to prison, having lost Vanessa and the city. He then unmasks and boldly states that Fisk won't tell or go after anyone, otherwise Matt will prove Vanessa had Nadeem's murdered. Realizing he lost, Fisk apologizes to Vanessa and says it was the best day of his life before, then agrees to Matt's deal. Mahoney enters and arrests Fisk. As they unmask Dex, who has apparently been paralyzed, Mahoney points out Matt and calls him the real Daredevil. With the episode drawing to a close, Matt sets about making amends with everyone, and the show's cancellation ends a hinted return for one character.
As expected, Daredevil provided an excellent, exciting season finale, though it unfortunately seems to be serving as the series finale as well.
As the episode opens, things feel hopeless for the gang, as Fisk has taken care of seemingly every potentialproblem in his plans. With Nadeem dead, Karen discredited, and Daredevil incriminated, Hell's Kitchen is quickly taking a shine to Fisk again. Manning's unaware admittance is the key for Matt's side of things, and Seema's help is crucial to the whole thing from the other side. Matt already had Dex's therapy tape talking about killing birds, but this wasn't much by itself, as evidenced by Dex dismissing Matt's questions. Julie's death, however, is the match that lights Dex's powder keg, causing him to realize he was just another person Fisk manipulated, and it cost him Julie. It's sad that this happened, since Julie was such a nice person, even willing to help Dex out with his issues, which is now connecting some dots for me. Back when Dex talked to her about what happened during their date, she seemed to want to help, then suddenly texted him later saying to leave her alone. I had taken this as meaning she was waiting for a safe moment to say so, but it seems like Fisk may have been the one behind this text. At that point, Dex's mind was beginning to crumble, and if Julie had indeed been able to help him, Fisk's manipulation would have failed. Seema's arrival at the FBI was something I enjoyed as well, as at first I fell for her trick since she'd ended things so angry at Ray. I was happy to see that she was pretending, however, and following her husband's plan allows her to perfectly and safely get his video to Foggy. I'd had a feeling in the previous episode that Nadeem was going to do something like this, and seeing it work out was incredibly satisfying, allowing one of the more noble and manipulated characters to provide the final nail for Fisk's coffin. Karen's use of Nadeem's video while Matt dealt with Dex was perfect, allowing news of the true situation to spread like wildfire. Her immediate willingness to do this is a testament to how strong she really is, as although it's essentially a sure bet, she's still taking a risk going against Fisk again. The final fight in this episode is fantastic, with every participant using their particular combat style and alternating between fighting the other two. After everything Fisk and Dex did this season, it was awesome to see the latter get brutalized, and the former end up on his knees. Especially great was Matt and Dex facing off after the chandelier dropped, with Matt expertly deflecting the precisely thrown projectiles and getting into close quarters. The final segment shows the humanity of both Fisk and Matt, with the former demanding that Vanessa be left out of things and choosing to go to jail for her, and the latter proving himself the better man by not falling for the Kingpin's trick. The one frustrating aspect after everything is the fact the show's cancellation, especially since it comes after hinting a few things for the future. This was easily one of my favorite Netflix shows, and is, along with Punisher, always at the top of my list of for the Marvel shows. That said, however, I was glad we got the seasons we did, and will forever remember this as a great piece of the superhero genre. Everyone in the cast gave us incredible performances, with Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio especially giving us a perfect dichotomy for our hero and villain. Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson were amazing as the supporting cast, working to do more than just be side characters cheering for the main hero. Wilson Bethel gave us a great unstable Bullseye, and past cast members, like Scott Glenn as Stick, enhanced the show further. The show might be ending, but we can at least say we got to see such a great show where everyone clearly cared about giving us something worth watching.
