Momo and the others made it out, but Bakugou, Kirishima, and Kaminari have their own battle, and Aoyama's chance to shine arrives. Shindo and Ketsubutsu begin the episode with the latter serving as a pretty unnecessary filler to explain what has happened so far. Though his initial goal was to separate and hunt Class 1-A, other classes have joined in to capitalize, but he says it's fine because those that have joined in will tire, then he and the others from Ketsubutsu can strike. Tatamia calls him sneaky, but he says he prefers tactical, as with so few spots left, now is the time to make some kind of move. Elsewhere, Bakugou ignore's Seiji's insistence on school pride and dignity, firing an altered and weaker version of his AP Shot, AP Shot Autocannon, to obliterate the strange flesh Seiji shot at him with his quirk. Kaminari joins the fray, using his new tech to launch metal plates that lodge themselves in a wall. Bakugou tells Seiji not to forget him, but the latter notes he hasn't. A piece of flesh encompasses Bakugou as he tosses something to Kaminari, balling the former up. Seiji explains to Kaminari that, given the exam's strict elimination, the heroes are obviously trying to elevate the hero career and weed out the weak, and he wants to do his part for this by stopping anyone he can, disregarding his own failing. Seiji, believing he has Kaminari in a bind, explains that though his quirk, Meatball, which allows him to only ball up opponents but freely morph his own skin, leaves everyone in a strange state, they're senses go unchanged, therefore they feel pain. Kaminari surprises him with one of Bakugou's new upgrades: prior to battles he creates small grenades with his quirks. Maneuvering Seiji to the side, Kaminari then uses his own new gadgets to shock his foe with a single finger shot. We see that, when Kaminari asked for an upgrade to better control his electricity, Hatsume and Power Loader gave him the plates from earlier, which he is able to fire from his launcher. When aimed properly with his glasses, he can then shoot a single stream of electricity to the conducting plate. Kaminari says Seiji is misjudging Bakugou and Kirishima, who are working hard, and due to taking so much damage, Seiji's control over the meatballs collapses. Now recovered, Kirishima and Bakugou are able to knock out Seiji with a combination attack, with Bakugou saying Kirishima took too long. Kaminari points out the numerous other students who have returned to normal, but a gleeful Bakugou says he's already aware. In the ante room, Todoroki worries about his classmate, only for Momo's group to enter. As Yoarashi gives another look, they wonder at the rest of their classmates completing the exam round. Back outside, Sero catches up to the running Midoriya and says to leap with them both. Once in the air, he calls to Uraraka, who released her quirk levitating rocks attached to tape. The boulders slam down, trapping their foes with the tape, and though the group begs for mercy, Midoriya and the others choose to eliminate them. With only 79 spots left, no U.A. students have been eliminated but are scrambling to finish. Iida is rushing around, trying to get everyone to regroup, finds Aoyama hiding in some rubble.
Aoyama points out that everyone could pass while he does so, but Iida says he'd be happy in that case, as he feels it's his job as class president to help the others. Bakugou's group meets up with Midoriya's, and as they gush about their success, Bakugou surprises Midoriya by complimenting him, saying it's natural he was able to pass with his borrowed power. Midoriya is shocked that Bakugou seems to have connected him to All Might, and everyone goes in to meet with the others, learning nine U.A. students are left with only 18 spots to pass. As Iida works to both pass and save Aoyama, who begins to give up, the others begin to worry about what they should do. Shindo's group passes, leaving only 10 spots, and we learn that Aoyama, thinking on Iida's conviction, remembers when he asked his parents about why he's different. Inspired, Aoyama makes a decision for the class, but things don't go as he planned as we finish up this part of the exam. Kaminari gets much of the spotlight this episode, finally able to conduct his electricity so that it all doesn't just come out at once. Prior to this, though he's a pretty cool and potentially powerful character, his all-or-nothing quirk kinda put him back with Midoriya. We saw this back during the first crisis, when, although it saved Momo and Jiro, his attack left him in his goofy state, and we also comedically saw it when Bakugou paid back Kirishima. Now, however, he finally has a way to channel his power, and it allows for much safer dispersal so as not hurt others or have to wildly release everything at once. Though he obviously already figured out Midoriya's connection to All Might, it's surprising to see Bakugou give props to the former, whom he has always seen and treated as an inferior. He seems to have developed a grudging respect for Midoriya, but of course we'll have to wait and see how exactly he handles Midoriya's sudden excellence. We also see a bit more into Aoyama with this episode, as obviously he is pessimistic, giving up easily, and seems to have a problem with how his quirk makes him different from those around him. This suggests that his arrogant attitude is a shroud he uses to hide his insecurities, but with inspirational people like Midoriya and Iida around, he can hopeful improve. With this exam wrapping up, viewers will get more excitement as the second phase begins, putting the students to a new type of test.
