Danny and Colleen fight to complete the ritual, and everyone deals with the results of Davos's actions this season.
Danny delivers a monologue about how every end leads to a beginning and vice versa, as two sides of a coin, like light and dark, or Danny and Davos.
However, he says relationships constantly change, and therefore aren't always like this; people will work together or against at times, as complimentary forces. This is all said over a time lapse of him and Davos growing up, and he says it comes down to the question of whether the people in your life are there because of fate or sheer chance. While Lei Kung had always told Danny he had an important destiny, he is now wondering if the man was wrong, or if Danny only knew half the story. In the present, Davos and Colleen are in pain due to him halting the ceremony; he is appalled that Danny would let her have the fist. They are determined to finish the transfer, but Davos declares that the fist is his, and destroys the dojo before escaping, and they give chase. At Davos's base, Walker has locked Misty in a cell. While unable to pry the door open, the detective finds she can pry off and punch away pieces of the surrounding wall. Out in the lobby, Walker sings while dragging Chen's body away, then sets up at the top of the stairs with her machetes and gun for Davos. Joy is safely in an ambulance, talking to Ward about how Davos might succeed, and arguing about whether she turned against him out of simply self-preservation or in a brave attempt to fix what she did; she tells him to stop making excuses for her. He promises to always be there if she needs him, and when she mentions how toxic things end up because of them, he tells he about Bethany's pregnancy, which she sees as a way for him to improve.
Davos arrives at his base, and realizing Chen is gone and there's a pile of blood, he barely gets behind a pillar as Walker begins shooting.
On the streets, Colleen tells Danny about the pain she's in, but points out Davos must be feeling the same, and Danny says they need to finish the ceremony. While he's done protecting Davos, they can't kill him, or Colleen will die as well, and since Colleen will need both hands for the ritual, she gives Danny her sword. As Misty pushes her hand out the cell wall, Davos tries to reason with Walker, but she is determined to kill him. He uses the fist to hie and get her down from the stairs, and she bumps into Danny and Colleen as she searches. They try to convince Walker not to kill Davos, but that they can work together, and when Davos comes in to fight Colleen, Danny holds off Walker. Walker draws her machetes to face Danny, and though Davos demands the fist from Colleen, she is able to keep up with and hold him off. Danny takes a fall when Walker takes advantage of his weak leg, but Misty enters the fray, and Colleen and Davos take their fight outside after the latter destroys a wall. Davos and Colleen argue about who deserves the fist and, and though Misty is able to block Walker's sword with her prosthetic, the blade soon damages it. Danny then brings Mary our to end the fight by slashing open a sprinkler and having Misty flash her phone like a strobe light. Colleen and Davos are both incapacitated when their iron fists collide, and Misty has Danny go help Colleen while she, with her arm broken, takes Mary to get backup. Arriving just as Colleen stops Davos from reversing the ritual, Danny is able to help her overpower Davos and finish the ritual. Davos flies into a rage when Colleen refuses to "end it" like he wants, merely knocking him back to the ground with the fist.
Later, Misty has handed Mary to EMTs and tells Danny this is his time to talk to Davos, as she'll be booking him soon.
Davos is disgusted when Danny is still compassionate toward him, and though he says Danny's choices led to this, Danny finally refuses to take the blame. While Davos says he's sent a powerful message into the world, Danny still has hope that he can be saved. While Lei Kung saw Danny as a prophesied person, Davos believes that unlike himself, Danny doesn't know who he is or what he stands for. Misty talks to Colleen about the tattoo and fist; the latter isn't sure what it's like, but says it feels right. Misty is certain that Colleen will find a way to use the fist for good, and surprises her by saying she won't be taking the captain job; there's too much red tape and politics. The give hints at a Daughters of the Dragon team-up and promise to meet up, with Misty wanting to do so soon since Luke is going down a dark path. Danny and Colleen are now unsure where their relationship stands, and while he believes they may have been fated to be together, she thinks it was just chance. While cleaning the dojo, Danny is shocked when he notices something on the other side of Colleen's family crest from her broken box. Colleen goes to Bayard, where Chung is glad Davos's lackeys got locked up, but Colleen simply says they were in a tough place and wants to help them. He agrees to have a service for BB, and she talks to Mrs. Yang; the two reach a delicate balance as the Triads won't "immediately" leave organized crime behind, and Colleen refuses to sit back and let them continue it. Ward goes to a meeting and stops Bethany from ending it so he can speak; he delivers an impassioned speech about how he's alone and doesn't know himself. He tells Bethany he wants to be there for the baby, but she turns him down; though he is upset, she says it's not fate and that, like he just said, he doesn't know himself. He admits he doesn't even like himself and says she doesn't believe he can be a better person, but she wishes him luck, saying she believes him in. More identity issues arise as the episode closes out, with Walker revealing something about herself to Joy and Colleen finding a shocking letter from Danny that ties everything back to the beginning. He and Ward decide to find themselves, and a flash-forward reveals how they, on their journey, and Colleen on hers, have advanced.
Iron Fist may have had some weak moments overall, it definitely improved in the second season and I'm ad to be done with it and that it got canceled.
As I've mentioned plenty of times, Danny really hasn't ever seemed as impressive as he should, constantly losing while Colleen pulls off great moves. However, Danny obviously recognized that he needed to improve himself, and that Colleen seems deserving of the Fist. I did find it somewhat funny that I've been talking about how Colleen constantly does better than him, then he suddenly decides she should be the new Iron Fist. Danny has definitely improved from the first season and Defenders, especially after he started training with Colleen, getting some good hits on Davos in the final battle. While Danny grew a lot this season, I feel like Colleen didn't experience as much change, but is in the perfect position to do so. With the fist, a possible team-up with Misty, and the issue of her mom, she has a lot of things to do in the future. She's already stepping right up to the plate, with the way she firmly tells Yang to eventually get out of organized crime, and that she'll be in their way. Walker shows her skills as well this episode, taking on Danny and Misty while determined to get rid of Davos. Though Danny did stop her, it took some ingenuity, and she comes back to Joy later with something important and rather frightening to say. While I do think Joy deserved punishment for her part in hurting Danny, it's clear that she has tried to make up for what she did and faced retribution. Her broken appearance by the end of the episode is the perfect thing to explain her attitude by that point of wanting to just be done with everything. Ward takes massive steps again here, finally willing to open up in a group meeting and apologizing to Bethany. His speech to everyone about how he's lonely and doesn't know who he is shows how afraid he is to suddenly have most of the people he had. When he talked to Bethany, I was honestly a bit surprised he didn't become angry when she turned him down; it's impressive how he handled the situation maturely. He's clearly hurt and struggling to understand why she pushes him away, but he lets her say what she needs to and listens, rather than just arguing. Much like Danny, Ward is now on a mission to figure himself out, and while Danny is on a more spiritual journey, Ward is emotional and fighting against self-loathing. One of my favorite aspects of this episodes comes from Danny's speech at the beginning, which I didn't notice until my second viewing. Overall his words are pretty typical, saying that there's always opposing forces in this world, and when one thing ends, another begins. The clear meaning behind this is in comparing him with Davos, who took a more brutal approach to being a new Iron Fist after ending Danny's time. There's one line that stands out, however, as Danny talks about "two sides of the same coin," foreshadowing his discovery on the back of Colleen's crest. The other side is important to each of them, and the two of them have experienced two ends and beginnings over the season. Danny's time as the Iron Fist has ended, at least for now, but a new beginning appears in Colleen taking control of the fist. At this point their relationship has obviously reached its end, but Danny finds a new life figuring himself out, and Colleen has a new life learning how to use her abilities. Both of them also have friendship-based relationships to focus on instead, with Danny and Ward becoming closer and Misty and Colleen obviously hinting at Daughters of the Dragon. The first season of Iron Fist was one of the Marvel shows I've liked less than some others, like Daredevil and Punisher, but the second season was a massive upgrade. With better combat and spiritual and emotional journeys and discoveries for numerous characters, I'm sad to see the show go, but am glad I got to see it.
