The newest Dead by Daylight event has shown up, and it's bringing back a few old elements while adding a bit of new content.
Back in October, we had the Hallowed Blight event, which was a way to experiment with adding new survivor tasks, int he form of the plants that needed cleansing.
This time around, there's not really a goal for players to shoot for, like the Hallowed Blight cosmetic rewards that could be earned. Rather, there are some free cosmetics for killers as well as a cost cosmetic for one in particular, and survivors have special items to find in chests during matches and new cosmetics as well. Overall, killers again got the short end of the stick with this event, as the their main recent prices for the Christmas season were a few cosmetics. Namely, all the unlicensed killers released since the last Christmas event, i.e. Clown, Spirit, and Legion, received Frosty Eyes cosmetics. This had been done previously for the original unlicensed killers, but until recently the remaining ones had been without them. As someone who uses this cosmetic sometimes for the other killers, I enjoyed seeing it added even if it's not much of an addition.
The Clown got another addition this season that sets him apart from the others: that of the "Santa Clown" cosmetic set.
To get the fat killer into the season, the devs gave him a dirty red robe and hat, a letter opener for his weapon, an ornament nose, and a bag of "goodies." I personally am a fan of this new outfit, because of both my love for Christmas and the disgusting, creepy nature of it. Even if it's been done before, the idea of an evil Santa can be fun if done well, and this Clown is definitely not someone you want coming down your chimney on Christmas. His letter opener and nose might be festive, and there are Christmas lights on his bag, but he's not without his horrors, of course. His nose is cracked and you see the entirety of his creepy, unpainted face while his beard hangs below his chin. Fitting with how he's a sort of common criminal carnival worker, he has fingerless gloves that showcase his nasty, untrimmed nails on the fingers he loves so much. His stomach and bag are the most grotesque of his new look, and have caught a lot of attention from disgusted fans. As his robe in untied, the Clown's massive stomach is exposed, and to make matters worse, it's covered in maggots. In his bag is my favorite aspect: a severed arm is poking out, and has candy canes in place of a few fingers. The arm wobbles as he walks, much like his belly does regardless of the cosmetic, and it's funny to me watching it flop around as he hunts down survivors. The major downside with this outfit is the price: it costs over 1,000 Auric Cells even when discounted 10%, and for those who just use shards, he costs 21,600.
The survivors, on the other hand, got what was more important here, with numerous new outfits and special items to use.
Every unlicensed survivor got an ugly Christmas sweater, which again, cost a bit with either shards or cells. Each sweater is personalized in some way for its respective survivor, and players have already picked out their favorites. Unfortunately, the Dead by Daylight Wikipedia hasn't been updated to include either Santa Clown or the sweaters, but I managed to find a great drawing that shows a few. Dwight has my personal favorite, covered in food like hamburgers and hot dogs, and Ace is a close second with a green sweater that has playing cards on it. Kate has a popular one that has horses on it, and David I've sen people both enjoy and dislike, because it's a tattered athlete sweater that reads "Nice Try" on the back. Survivors also get special items in both the frozen bloodweb and the boxes found across maps. With the bloodweb, survivors get numerous Christmas-themed mystery boxes that have random things inside, and improved odds to get good add-ons. I saw this happening when I played recently, as I was starting to work with my low-level Jake and found numerous insta-heal add-ons for medkits. The more important item here, however, is the returning firecracker, which was introduced for a short time in the past. When dropped, these firecrackers explode into colorful lights that can be used just for celebration or to blind the killer. Though the positioning has to be right, firecrackers could be considered easier to use than flashlights, as you simply drop them and they instantly blind the killer. This makes them the perfect tool to send the killer in the wrong direction during chases, or to save fellow survivors from the killer's grasp. For the time being, these firecrackers are abundant in boxes and the bloodweb, and tips have been coming out on how to use them for saves. The method I've seen is to take a hit from the killer before tossing the item down, as it both prevents the killer from knowing due to hiding the throw animation and gives the firecracker time to explode as the killer recovers from their swing. This event doesn't require the kind of playtime that the Hallowed Blight did, but it provides holiday fun until January 3 for players, and now we have some fun Christmas cosmetics as well!
