Frank and Amy bond as they learn about the photos, and as Madani tries to keep the truth from Mahoney, Billy starts to go out of control.
Frank and Amy are waiting at a heavy door, and the man inside refuses to let them in until Frank says "Uncle Teddy" sent them and flashes a wad of money.
As the man is explaining their deal, Frank suddenly pummels him, saying they're just there to use his stuff, and Amy goes into the dark room. As the photos develop, the man, under Frank's watch, reaches for a shotgun, but the Punisher quickly yanks it away and injures him with it, furious because the man's business is for photographing young girls. The man begs Amy for help, and though Frank tells her to wait outside, she convinces him it's unnecessary, and while thanking him, suggests he burning the place down. Curtis and his girlfriend wake and he gets up for the day, reminding her they're at a hotel for a week due to a rodent problem at his apartment. He heads out to serve food to veterans who need help, pulling aside the one who spoke at the last meeting to give him a pair of glasses. Ecstatic, he hugs Curtis, who suggests they next get him a place to live other than his car. When the man walks away, Curtis gets back to work, checking on his gun. Billy, meanwhile, silently returns to Dumont's apartment, accidentally stumbling upon her getting dressed, and she closes her door on him. Out in the city, Amy uses her con skills to get info on Poloznev, and learns where he gets breakfast every day with his daughter. She goes quiet after saying kids are a weakness, and as they later wait outside the daughter's school, she mocks the students for paying so much. Amy asks about Lisa, and Frank claims that while he thinks of her every day, he doesn't think of who she'd be now, so she suggests he let her live happily in his head. He stammers saying she'd be 15 next month, then sits silently as Amy tries to make the situation lighthearted joking about how Lisa would be driving him crazy, so she changes the subject to the students whose parents kill people.
Billy makes Dumont tea, and when she says he misses little, he explains he wasn't spying before. He realizes what she means is her meeting with Jake (Jordan Dean).
She states his behavior is self-destructive and says she believes everyone is worth saving, but he says her helping him seems self-destructive as well. He realizes the situation is not entirely about him, and admits he went drinking with Jake, who can relate to him, the night prior. Dumont asks him not to leave again, and when he tries threatening her asking what happens if he does, she simply tells him not to get caught, and leaves. Elsewhere in a trailer, Frank is checking some guns Curtis gave him, and after complaining about their living conditions, Amy suggests he train her to shoot. He offers his empty pistol if she can take it from him, and of course he easily subdues her in each attempt, so she asks him to show her how to disarm someone. After succeeding, she struggles to then practice his next step of immediately shooting the attacker, in this case him, but he congratulates her for being able to do so. He goes quiet when she says he must've been a good dad and asks if he taught this to Lisa, then advises her to take the shotgun, fire, and escape through a hatch if anyone ever arrives but doesn't call her name, something he will always do. Meanwhile, Billy is working out and snooping, finding his mask with a pistol and a file on him saying he is one of many strong men who can't admit their pain. He finds Curtis in a parking garage, and after forcing him to eject his gun's magazine and round, uncocks his pistol after confirming the gun is for him. While the lawyers told him what happened with Curtis, he doesn't remember, and tries to apologize, but Curtis wants him to turn himself in and pay for it. Revealing his face, he claims he already has, and says he's not going back and anyone who comes for him faces danger. Since Curtis has been asking about him and in his own mind they're still brothers, Billy says this is all hard to accept, and asks how he was scarred. Curtis refuses to say, and Billy, possibly believing he doesn't know, says he was never going to hurt him, and leaves.
John Pilgrim, praying for his family and checking on his targets, including Madani, is quickly growing disgusted with the high-sped, buzzing New York City lifestyle.
Madani is suspicious when someone knocks at her door, but holsters her gun when she learns it's Mahoney, who enters to discuss his case with her. After noting his suspicions about how perfectly the case about Billy lines up, he asks who the third person at the carousel was, as Billy couldn't have shot her in the head after having taken such damage to his face, and she's not cruel enough to do this. She dodges his questions, but he says they know someone cruel enough, and reveals he questioned the kids from the carousel, pretending he knew about the third man. Despite him knowing about the skull vest, she refuses to talk, so he tells her he's a pain but a good cop, and he believes she was before all this, then leaves. At the restaurant Poloznev goes to, Frank takes out his driver by pretending to be a homeless man, then Amy, as a waitress, shows him the picture. Leaving one guard with his family, Poloznev has two follow Amy and leaves with another, but Frank incapacitates the man and drives off. Amy evades her pursuers by making her outfit match that of the nearby students and teasing her hair, and Poloznev discovers Frank. As it turns out, Pilgrim is at the same diner as Madani, and follows her out, and when she pulls her gun, he reveals he knows "Castiglione's" true identity. Wondering what Frank did to earn a new identity, Pilgrim offers to keep her secret in exchange for the Punisher and Amy's location. She instead takes a picture, which he poses for, and suggests she just arrest him now, but he reminds her she has no charge for doing so. He claims she'll have to admit to her guilt and repent or it'll eat her alive, then leaves, saying she's easy to find. She returns to the diner, ordering the workers to not clean. While Frank learns the truth about the photos, Billy and his gang take action and everyone is forced to deal with the repercussions.
It's somewhat strange to see how reserved Frank is being in recent episodes, given his general choice to kill anyone he deems necessary.
At the start of the episode, there is a perfect reason to kill the man whose equipment they use, especially for Frank, who had a daughter of his own and loathes pedophilia. It was entertaining to see him and Amy walk away from the burning shop, but at the same time, you really want the man to suffer when you realize what he does. Later Frank spares another, and this time, thoughts of his daughter again appear, staying his hand, though here it was a matter of a girl potentially losing her father. With how often Amy brings up Lisa, it's clear she's on Frank's mind a lot more, and he and Amy are developing a father-daughter bond. Along with how they poke fun at each other a lot, he has now taught her to shoot, and this for me was reminiscent of him playing catch with Micro's son last season. In both situations, Frank is stepping into the parental role that neither character had in their life, and made an effort to help them. Because of this, I understand why Amy is now able to sway Frank a bit in how he punishes people, but I do miss the brutality his character is known for. While Frank is becoming more merciful, Billy is going off the deep end as he fills with rage, becoming more bold now that Jake has accepted him. Prior to this episode, it was clear that even when angry with Dumont, Billy respected her to some extent and would never hurt her. Hear, however, he's fed up with everything, and has reached a boiling point where she's clearly in some level of danger. He even takes this to Curtis, aware of what he did to his former friend, and while he says he was never going to hurt the man, he demonstrates his incredible instability. With his new boldness and a friend by his side, Billy is on the track to getting in some incredible trouble again soon, and there will be death for sure. Madani has interactions with both Mahoney and Pilgrim in this episode, and they continue to show how she is currently a bit lacking in her moves. Mahoney is obviously a good cop, and it could be bad for Frank to be found out, but someone like Mahoney could be a great asset in the two situations we have going on. The scenes with Pilgrim, while shoot, show how she is unable to really do anything against the puritanical killer, and makes him even more intimidating. As Pilgrim points out, Madani is able to do nothing at the moment, as she can't really charge him with anything, and shooting him would look like her attacking. Pilgrim is barking up the wrong tree if he truly believes Madani will help him find Frank, but his final message that she's easy to find is rather chilling. He doesn't break a sweat during the interaction, despite her having a gun on him, and even threatens her by saying he can find her anytime, and essentially expressing that she doesn't scare him at all. With a somewhat more lenient Frank, the truth of the photos and the Schultz family, and Billy going psycho, I'm wondering how the Punisher will move from here.
