Donald goes to winter war yet again when Chip and Dale sneak into his house to swipe his Christmas treats.
Chip and Dale are snoozing away on a pile of acorns and pinecones in a log when Donald's nearby tree chopping wakes the former.
Watching as he sings "Jingle Bells" and ties the tree to his sled, they then follow the duck to his house. As he decorates, they notice all his Christmas treats, which excite Dale, but Chip tells him to be quiet and the pair sneaks in through the mail slot. Inside, the two start swiping walnuts until Dale comes across a toy with a top hat and cane, and decides to put on a show. After bowing to some watching dolls, Dale accidentally activates a duel display that almost "shoots" him, and he returns to his brother. Hearing commotion from the two, Donald pokes his head out and sees the chipmunks with a setup where Chip puts the walnuts on a conveyor, which leads to a toy truck that Dale drives away. Calling them little robbers, Donald halts Dale with his toy train's crossing an scoops the walnuts into a bowl, but Chip then rides up on a pushcart and swipes them back. Annoyed, Donald comes down the chimney dressed as Santa, offering Dale a normal walnut while giving Chip a large one. This causes the brothers to fight, and after Chip claims victory, the duck pulls out a pistol and forces them into a police van, which he then trips into a wall. Once they're free, he loads up a toy shotgun with walnuts and ornaments, but the chipmunks arm themselves as well.
This is actually a special that I didn't watch as a kid, but had a fun time watching for Christmas this year.
Combining characters from two of my previous posts, this episode sees the mischievous Chip and Dale facing the hotheaded Donald Duck. Much like the previous pairings, these groups opposing each other makes perfect comedic sense because of the chipmunks being able to troll Donald. Similar to how Mickey cutting their tree down in "Pluto's Christmas Tree" kicked things off before, this time around it's Donald chopping down a nearby tree. It's then easy to get the story rolling, since the chipmunks are of course curious about the duck and follow to his house, and how could they possible resist the treats inside? Along with the walnuts, Donald has plenty of candy inside his warm house, and he seems too busy decorating to notice them. From there things get more hectic, as the two at first seem successful as they root through the candy and Dale has his stroll that reminds me of when Jerry went into the city in Tom and Jerry. Of course, Donald does eventually see them, and though he seems to have the upper hand with the element of surprise, Chip is quick to keep him from retrieving the nuts. As the chipmunks are the more cunning of the two sides, it makes sense that they'd be able to constantly trick Donald, and though he does get the upper hand for a time, much like with his nephews, the chipmunks have a few tricks left to use. A lot of the humor, of course, is based around slapstick and exaggerated cartoon abilities, and I got a good laugh of surprise after Donald whipped out a pistol. In the current age, I think it's safe to assume such a move would be considered too shocking and violent for children to view, considering there's even an episode of Pokemon that is banned for such a reason (So THAT'S where all the Tauros came from), but to me it was just plain funny how drastic Donald immediately was. It's rather comical how Chip and Dale interact with the toys in Donald's house, especially when the objects become important to their path trying to take walnuts. More so, it's funny to see Donald fighting a pair of squirrels who've invaded his house by using a bunch of toy weapons. This was only my first viewing of this episode, but I can tell I'll enjoy watching it more in the future, especially around Christmas.
