Now that Zøg has agreed to let Bean find herself, she goes on a wild spree with Luci encouraging her bad behavior. The Herald opens the episode with a gag as a town crier, then we see Bean and company stumble out of a bar.
Saying she doesn't want the night to end, Bean agrees with the persuasive Luci to steal a carriage, taking Lady Lingonberry's. As a cop gives chase, she claims to drive better drunk, while admitting she's never driven. More cops enter riding donkeys, leading to comical braying that sounds like police sirens. The group fears going to prison, but Bean is able to pull a medieval play on the classic "outrun the train" situation in a chase, barely passing a caravan. Noticing more cops ahead, Bean declares she has a bad idea and pulls a Dukes of Hazard move, detouring to a broken bridge and leaping over. Unlike the Duke boys, however, the gang doesn't fully stick the landing, and the carriage sinks into the water. They leave happily as Lady Lingonberry, still in the carriage, drowns. The gang heads back to the castle, where we find one of the advertised scenes: locked out, Bean advises the others to cross the moat, which leads to a waterfall, by swimming against the current. She succeeds, but the confident Elfo fails. Elfo arrives later, having fallen into a group of crabs which are now a meal, and Bean shows them Zøg's most prized possession: a "rare" fruit from a crusade. Luci states it's simply a lemon, which they feed kids in Hell, and convinces her to eat it, with a nearby Zøg shocked that they don't respect the Lemon Crusades. Worrying about how wild Bean has become, Zøg says she hasn't been the same since her mom died. He notes she was a better queen than his current wife, and she, annoyed, takes some "snakeroot." Bean wakes the next morning, annoyed that Zøg took her curtains, and sees the queen outside still feeling the effects of her drug. The group decides to take some and steals her bag while she bathes, to the enjoyment of the watching sorcerers. We see now they have an assistant, Jerry. Bean and the others take the snakeroot, and in a typical case of being new to drugs, they at first feel nothing, only to soon find reality warped just before Bean goes into overdrive and details a rise, fall, and comeback of a band she wants to start. After playing at the castle, they go on a crime spree in town, and meet a progressive group led by a woman, that believes there'd be less crime if women ran the crimes. With the others still in her shirt after a theft, Bean talks to them about whether to help the group. They finally agree and Luci, unimpressed with the group's desire to steal potatoes, suggests stealing possessions from the royal crypt. They break into the castle and Bean leads them to her mother's statue, which covers the crypt. Nervous, Bean finally descends, though the ladder breaks as she does. Reminiscing with her dead family as she steals their belongings, Bean is soon rushed by the group, who betray her by tossing down a rope and kicking Elfo and Luci in, before leaving with everything. Zøg is horrified the next morning when his guards bring Bean in as the criminal who people have been reporting lately, comparing her to a wanted poster of her face with a mustache. Bean hurriedly explains she made bad choices because she's struggling to find herself, and Elfo tries to give himself up to no avail in an effort to protect Luci from blame. Zøg tries to be understanding, bringing up his own troubled past, but becomes upset when he learns Bean stole from the crypt, sending her to her room. Upset, Bean tells Luci to leave her for a while, making him sad, but he feels better after knocking down Elfo, who is rubbing his sucker on the carpet to get it hairy after Luci did so as a prank. Zøg talks to his council about what to do,with Odval saying she's just a teenager but Sorcerio theorizing that she's possessed by a demon. The sorcerers worry that they've been found out, with Jerry pouting that they never tell him their plans. Agreeing with Sorcerio, Zøg brings Bean to the tower and straps her to a table, with the clueless Sorcerio saying it's obvious she has a demon but thinking Luci's a cat. He tries incense, magnetic attraction, and violent shaking, which he and Zøg are surprised don't work. And upset Sorcerio says that in the end, science is unprovable nonsense, while religious magic will hold the answer. Zøg, disliking the sound of an exorcism, says to proceed but not speak of it, and Odval reveals he actually knows a renowned exorcist, Big Jo. The man arrives in creepy fashion, moving as lightning flashes. As he has the others leave, the sorcerers recognize him and tell Luci to hide inside Bean. Luci fails to convince Jo that Bean is alone, as he can't remember her full name, and though he cracks jokes, Jo says he is obviously afraid. Luci gives us an entertaining Exorcist joke, and after a gag with Zøg, Jo is surprised to see his tools failing. He decides to use fire, explaining he'll burn away Bean's flesh to get Luci out, forcing the latter to be the reasonable one and leave her body to save her life, getting sucked into a bottle in the process. Bean and Elfo realize things will be boring without Luci and are determined to get him back. She goes to Zøg, who happily notes the lack of sparkle in her eyes, and learns from Odval that Jo exterminates demons with extreme prejudice. With Luci captured, it is up to Bean and Elfo to rescue their demonic friend from the methods of Big Jo. This episode gives us a different side to Zøg and shows improvement for Bean, who si beginning to realize she is doing wrong. Despite having fun after Zøg canceled the wedding, the betrayal she felt from the criminal group led to her actually re-thinking her actions and wondering about why she's taking her actions. Of course Bean enjoys adventures and, given her desire to get Luci back, has fun doing at least somewhat dark things, but she was already hesitant to do everything he suggested and now doubts that she's okay with what she's done. As she goes crazy, we surprisingly get minimal reactions from the previously forceful Zøg, who punished his daughter when he realized he had to, but at first tried to look at the situation reasonably. This is different from previous episodes, where he would explode, and we see he does have at least some understanding of his daughter's frustration, as he knows she has been upset since her mother died. We get little from Elfo this episode other than that he's struggling to get over his obsessive compulsive nature learned from his home. On the other hand, we see a bit of sadness from Luci when Bean turns him away, suggesting he too is actually having fun with her, and we learn a bit about this world's deamons due to Big Jo. As with the first two episodes, there are plenty of moments for the incredible cast to shine with their verbal jokes, and we also have plenty of smaller jokes that, while referential, are funny enough to stand on their own. Considering how episode two ended, I'm somewhat surprised neither Prince Merkimer nor his family appeared this episode. Obviously the focus was on Bean and how she is handling Zøg's leniency, and it's definitely a good idea to give the different storylines enough time and development. At the same time, I'm excited to see how the series goes forward now that the alliance is dissolved and Bentwood's prince has been turned into a pig. Whatever happens as Bean works to get Luci back, the possible consequences of both Merkimer's condition and the ship attack from last episode has me excited.
