A distraught Angella is prepared to surrender herself to the Horde to free Glimmer, but the Princess Alliance is determined to get her and Bow back.
Catra brags about her success with the sword to Shadow Weaver, who shoves the girl aside when Hordak appears on a screen. He commends SW for her actions, saying Angella has until the morning's moonrise to surrender and get Glimmer back.
Irritated once he's gone, Catra says how she's the one who captured Glimmer, but SW reminds her that as a Force Captain, the credit for her work goes to the sorceress. Catra leaves as SW begins some sort of interrogation on the injured and tattered Glimmer, held in suspended captivity. At Bright Moon, Angella struggles with her possibilities; as a ruler she can't surrender, but as a mother, Glimmer is all she has, so she's going to obey Hordak. Adora points out the Horde might not hold up their end of the deal, but Angella says they don't have a chance without She-Ra. Unconvinced, Adora says she'll come up with a way to get her friends back from the Fright Zone, since she knows the place. Outside Adora begins to break down, but finds the other princesses from the alliance and Sea Hawk waiting to get their friends back. Back in the Fright Zone, Kyle (Antony Del Rio) brings Bow some food, and is surprised the prisoner wants to talk to him. Bow asks about Glimmer, but Kyle says it's classified and he doesn't know where she is, and eventually runs off nervously. After some bickering about what item should represent each person, Adora gets her friends to focus so she can explain her plan to rescue the others. While Perfuma and Entrapta will disable the lights, Mermista groans in disgust as Adora says she'll enter the building through the sewer system to open the door.
Though Mermista struggles in the sewer, Adora and Sea Hawk get into position and signal Perfuma, who manages to get the distracted Entrapta to stop gushing over the Horde's system and rip out the wires for the lights.
Sea Hawk gets overexcited and jumps early when Adora says to attack, but they still succeed, but with Mermista held up, they decide to do something with the guards. Perfuma ends up dragging a sad Entrapta away from robots, and unfortunately for Adora, Sea Hawk ends up with Scorpia when he has to pretend he's an inspector. Adora becomes frustrated as Perfuma and Entrapta finally arrive, reminding them this isn't a game, and just then a wet and annoyed Mermista lets them in. Hiding in a closet, Adora, Perfuma, and Mermista notice Entrapta is gone, angering Perfuma, and though Mermista is frustrated with how much more they now have to do, she agrees to find Entrapt and Sea Hawk along with the original plan. Entrapta is, in fact, making another log about keypads throughout the building when she sees a robot, and it leads her to another droid.
Glimmer tries to free herself, only for SW to explain as she gets a shock that trying to teleport will only hurt her, as the Black Garnet doesn't mix with her powers.
Shadow Weaver tells Glimmer how Angella is going to surrender herself, and though in disbelief at first, Glimmer soon lets out tears but asserts that She-Ra will succeed. Revealing the sword, SW says there will soon be no one to stand in their way. Enraged, Glimmer tries to teleport again, only to take a massive shock, earning SW's mockery. Meanwhile, Sea Hawk stumbles through the end of his "inspection," but Scorpia finally recognizes him from the Princess Prom as being with the rebellion. In the nick of time, Entrapta activates a swinging claw that knocks Scorpia away. Though Adora finds Bow's cell, she can't see Glimmer listed on a console, and she and the others are surprised when Entrapta arrives with her new robot friend, "Emily." They make their way to a command center where Entrapta geeks out over the controls, and Mermista volunteers to stay with her while the others get Bow. As Bow hammers at his cell, Kyle returns with Glimmer's location, thinking he's willing to talk because Bow is the only person who's ever listened, even if trapped. As Entrapta struggles with the controls, Lonnie gets on the group's platform and attack Adora, causing Perfuma to dangle off the side. Rogelio goes for the others, and the platforms become a chaotic up-and-down battle. Bow is growing bored with Kyle's babbling, but sees the fight in the background and keeps the young man talking, making him happy by promising to be his friend. The others soon defeat Adora's former friends and Sea Hawk busts open Bow's cage. Though they have one friend back, there's still a fight to the Black Garnet chamber, and Adora has decided to go it alone.
This episode continues an interesting situation started previously with the Rebellion at a major disadvantage, but unwilling to give in.
A typical hero like She-Ra, in the past, would be someone who constantly (if not always) won, but the Horde is doing a lot better at the moment. Glimmer is essentially the ultimate bargaining chip, showing Catra knew what she was doing last episode, as there is no way Angella would be so coldhearted as to decide her daughter was done for and to keep fighting. The Horde is thus able to continue their own machinations while crippling the Rebellion, as they've currently got a smaller leader, and are in a good position to take the queen of the whole thing. The relationship between Catra and Shadow Weaver continues to worsen, as for whatever reason SW is unwilling to accept her as a captain to take down Adora. Her own stubbornness is causing problems for her in return, as it's making Catra despise and want to overthrow her. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Adora has made positive strides with Angella, but of course the queen is likely to be even more protective of Glimmer than before. The group suffers a loss in the end, but I feel like overall the rescue mission was a great thing for the Rebellion, as they successfully invaded the Horde. Glimmer has constantly wanted to go on the offensive, since the group is always defending, but this time around, the Princesses were able to get into the Horde's most important areas, with just a few hitches. Therefore, even though they'll likely still be defending for the most part, they know there are weaknesses in the Horde's structures. I got plenty of laughs this episode as the alliance struggled to work together, since before now they were all by themselves. In particular as I expected, Mermista made me burst out laughing a few times with how against the idea of working hard she was and being sent through the sewer. Her groaning was entertaining to me and in a way reminded me of Tina Belcher of Bob's Burgers, a show I still need to watch more. Sea Hawk didn't have too many moments in this episode, but whenever he was involved I tended to be laughing, like when he ruins Adora's countdown to combat. I didn't care much for Kyle getting more fleshed out, especially because even if no one listens to him, it's strange how easily he starts giving Bow information. At the same time, it was funny how Bow, noticing the others, was smart enough to keep Kyle talking so that he would learn what he needed to and distract him. Glimmer shows some resilience in this episode, as although it seems she and Bow haven't been captive long, she's obviously taken some damage and she's trapped in a situation where using her powers only injures her. Despite that, she stays firmly defiant against Shadow Weaver, and refuses to stop believing in her friends or her mother. The rescue mission might not have gone perfectly, but it shows a lot of the group's strengths and sets us up for some interesting situations.
