Wanting to make sure Kim has a peaceful Christmas with her family, Ron faces problems when he takes on Drakken alone.
The Possibles are preparing for Christmas, lighting up their house so bright they need protective goggles, which causes Ron to stumble around when he shows up.
Kim says they've just started celebrating, and tells Rufus that eggnog comes later; Ron reminds her of the "greatest" tradition, watching The 6 Tasks of Snowman Hank. After Ron mentions that it's a promo, he is horrified when it suddenly becomes a commercial saying this year, instead of Snowman Hank, they'll be showing Xtreme Xmas, which pleases the twins but upsets Ron enough to scream. Ron is at first dismissive when Kim tries to cheer him up with a present, but becomes emotional when he learns she made him a "cyber scrapbook" of pictures of them. When Kim leaves to carol with her family, Ron picks up a call from Wade, who is dressed as Santa and says Shego just stole an experimental power cell. Not wanting to ruin Kim's Christmas and feeling like what he got her wasn't good enough, Ron decides to stop Drakken on his own.
Shego brings the cell to Drakken, who is excited that Kim won't be able to stop him since Christmas is her one day off; he begins ranting in a Grinch-like manner.
Shego asks about sunblock, as she is now on vacation as well, and leave as Drakken brings up what she'll be missing. He rants about how he'll be ruling everything until he notices Shego has already left, then sadly states it's no fun to talk about it to himself. Kim suddenly notices that Ron is missing; he's on a boat, making his dive when the captain recalls a guy named "Ron something" was a problem in the past. Back at the Possible house, the family uses high-tech methods to make eggnog, and when Kim's grandma notices Rufus, who loves eggnog, is gone, Kim becomes worried. Ron tries to scale Drakken's fortress, only for the door to open, and retrieves the power cell as Drakken is powering up his machine. Drakken takes the cell back, crushing Ron's communicator in the process, and the two accidentally activate his machine during their scuffle. The base section they're in blasts off, with Drakken saying he'll finally get his ultimate vacation: total Earth domination.
Ron manages to find the landing button, and he and Drakken then go back and forth landing and taking off with different buttons.
As the two scuffle again, they accidentally activate the emergency system, launch the escape pods, and hit the self-destruct and bedtime procedures. Though the conventional escape method is gone, Drakken says the garbage is evacuated in an impact-resistant container they could use. They evacuate just before the ship explodes, and while they land safely in a tundra, Kim's dad reads a story about their ancestor who was part of a Revolutionary War Christmas event. Kim suddenly gets a package, which turns out to be a communicator, and Wade explains how hers got destroyed when Ron went after Drakken. After Wade says he tracked the escape pods, with the first in London, Kim's family assures her she indeed needs to go find her friend. Though they decide to hold off celebrating until she returns, she tells them not to let this get in the way of Christmas and that she'll be back with Ron in time for presents. Out in the snow, Drakken blames Ron for their situation, saying he should've let the evil doctor conquer the world in the spirit of the season. Ron notices Drakken prepare to throw a cell phone as they pelt each other with snow, and points out they could call for help. Drakken calls Shego, but since she's on vacation, she ignores it, causing Drakken to lave a voicemail begging her to come save him. As Ron and Drakken argue over what they find in the container, Kim searches the globe for him, her family decides they can't sit by, and Shego gets Drakken's message.
I honestly don't remember if I watched this special much as a kid, but I had a good time watching it this year.
Aside from it focusing on Ron's bumbling attempt to keep Kim able to celebrate at home, we see him facing Dr. Drakken. This is always a great combination, in partdue to the great voice work of Will Friedle and John Dimaggio as Drakken. Both actors are great at the kind of wacky, over-the-top characterizations that give comedy to the show, and are an interesting pair together. While Drakken is at his best when shouting strange things, i.e. when life gives him lemons, "I COMPLAIN ABOUT THE LEMONS!," even these moments give him great lines to deliver. The two are generally goofy characters, especially when compared to the more competent Kim and Shego, as while the latter pair will often face each other in skilled combat, Ron and Drakken are more likely to go at it in a slap fight. One of the things that kicks off this episode is the fact that Ron tends to be a lovable fool, as Wade mentions that the previous year, he got Kim coupons for Christmas. We get another sign of this when he is on the boat with another Dimaggio character, who says it was "Ron something" who caused problems for him before. Interestingly enough, Ron actually shows some intelligence in this episode at the same time, though with still some goofiness. When he tries to break into Drakken's base, he starts climbing the building only to find that he's on the door, which opens. Later, he and Drakken get some good fighting in and Ron is logical in how he tries to take the power cell and trying to plan to get out of their snowy area. Everyone is full of Christmas spirit in this episode, and we see another take on the idea that this holiday can make even the fiercest of rivals make peace for a time. While Drakken has some kind of plan, Shego takes a vacation, and this is apparently the one day of the year that Kim takes to herself. You can tell that she and her family really love the holiday, as they go to comically extreme scientific lengths to celebrate. As this show always had plenty of science fiction tech, we get futuristic machines throughout, and Kim even provides Ron with a special kind of scrapbook. We get Christmas all throughout this special, with everyone celebrating in their own way and Ron excited for a show that comes on every year. In this regard, there's also a jab at the pop culture trend of the 90s and early 2000s to make everything "extreme" to appeal to kids. As actually happens sometimes in real life, the channel that normally airs Ron's precious Christmas special plans to replace it an "extreme" program. Kim Possible was one of the best things from Disney Channel at its time, and the Christmas special is worth a viewing.
