South Africa's president Jacob Zuma is in hot water after he fired a well-liked finance minister, causing problems for the economy, according to a BBC article.
Protests broke out after Zuma fired Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, which angered both supporters and opponents of Zuma. Despite this, a group has come out to support and defend Zuma, with one saying a forced regime change would be wrong and make current South Africa similar to the days of Apartheid. Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets as one group of protesters marched, according to the article. Protesters are demanding that Zuma resign from the presidency. Zuma's supporters believe he will be causing a major socio-economic change, so if he does, there is a chance things could calm down. People would likely still be angry about the firing, but if the economy improves, there will be something to be happy about. If not, Zuma's supporters might join the opposition and eventually succeed in removing him from office. To me, it appears that Zuma made a reckless decision and is facing a backlash that should have been expected. Firing someone who so many people like is already a problem, and causing issues for the economy can be catastrophic for citizens.
