With the Black Garnet throwing off the world's balance, Bright Moon faces destruction when the Horde comes to crush the rebellion.
As She-Ra and the others head for Bright Moon, Scorpia shows Catra that disasters are taking place across Etheria.
Entrapta gushes about being right: enhancing the Black Garnet threw everything out of wack, dumbing it down for Catra that the other runestones were drained. Catra wonders about making this effect permanent for the other princesses, and decides to attack Bright Moon while everything is frozen. Angella uses her runestone to activate the Bright Moon distress beacon, which leads them home, and Angella explains it's taking all her energy just to maintain her connection to the stone and hold the cloud at bay. Knowing the cloud is from the Fright Zone and noticing the woods freezing completely, Adora tells the others to prepare for an attack. At a war meeting, Bow says the entire Horde army was spotted coming at high speed. They believe the other princesses are too busy with their kingdoms to help, and though a guard brings in some arrivals, it turns out to just be Spinnerella and Netossa. Bow's dismissal annoys Netossa, who says her ability is literally "tossing nets," and as Spinnerella comforts her, Glimmer points out she currently has no powers. She still wants to fight, but Angella and Adora agree it's too dangerous since she's glitching. Adora wants to go it alone, but Bow believes it's too much for even She-Ra. Upset believing she can't do anything, Adora storms out, and when her friends follow, she explains she's worried Catra will be there, after their meeting in the temple pushed her further toward evil. She wonders if Light Hope was right and she's just endangering her friends, but Glimmer assures her they can do this.
Glimmer leads them to the "armory," where she's been secretly storing weapons. Bow excitedly goes for arrows, and Swift Wind fails to convince Adora to give him a flail.
Angella enters, rolling her eyes at Glimmer for thinking she wouldn't notice her hoard, and to her surprise, agrees that she needs to help her friends. After years of trying to make Glimmer like her, Angella realized she's more like her father, and gives her his staff. The Horde arrives, so Adora transforms into She-Ra, this time with more armor, and they go outside where Glimmer reassures her they'll succeed. She-Ra leaps into battle, but one of the front tanks turns out to have a bomb, and while she's stunned, soldiers on speeders rush past her. Bow and Glimmer join She-Ra on the battlefield as Angella goes to focus on the runestone, sending out a wave that knocks out some robots. After successfully blocking a blast at the castle, She-Ra takes a hit and sees Catra, who claims to not be surprised she's alive, and in fact is excited to finish her herself.
While taking out some robots, Glimmer finds herself facing Scorpia and some tanks, but Spinnerella and Netossa arrive and easily incapacitate the foes.
She-Ra grows tired as, without her sword, she has to rely on trying to punch Catra, and after trading insults, Catra claws her back, but She-Ra slams her into a wall. Catra gets another hit in, and declares things won't be over until everything is dark and Adora has failed her friends. Angered, She-Ra destroys her perch and pins her to a rock, only to find Catra distracted her and robots have destroyed Angella's shield. Catra, knowing the stone was obviously their last defense, mocks She-Ra as the latter runs off, and Angella struggles with. Unable to teleport, Glimmer runs to her, but Scorpia stands in her way, while She-Ra searches for her shield. Bow finds it just as soldiers get her with electrified whips. With everyone tiring but the Horde continuing strong, things are looking Bleak for Bright Moon, but group soon find there is still hope in the bad situation.
Despite having issues with this series when it started, I thoroughly enjoyed it in the long run, and it delivered a strong season finale.
The stakes are high throughout the episode, starting without how outmatched Bright Moon is with the Horde on the way. They were already constantly defending, which they're back to with the alliance in shambles, and the Whispering Woods, their biggest defense, is destroyed. This means that aside from having She-Ra on their side, Bright Moon is effectively in a worse position than at the start of the series. She-Ra is of course their best fighter, but even she's not at full capacity, because she's worried that Light Hope will be right and she'll fail because of returning to her friends. Another issue is how focused on Catra she gets, which proves to be her biggest problem, as Catra keeps her distracted while her soldiers destroy Angella's shield. You'd think she'd have learned her lesson after Princess Prom, but she was so intent on defeating her former friend that they lost some of what they're trying to defend. This started out as more of an issue for Catra, as she wanted to get Adora back in the Horde, but now it's something holding Adora back, as she wants her old friend to join her in fighting for the alliance. Catra again shows an astute tactical mind in this episode, as although she's just making use of Adora's feelings again, it's smart to keep using the strategy when Adora continues to fall for it. I liked how Angella and Glimmer's relationship has improved over time, culminating here in Angella giving her husband's staff to her daughter, which I assumed to be a something she had in the original series. Also enjoyable is how this episode wasn't a stereotypical superhero climax, with something like a a giant beam or enemies that fall when their leader does. We do have faceless fodder, but the Rebellion isn't really in a good position even with She-Ra, and the heroes are actually just trying to defend in this episode. This is a good continuation of what Angella was trying to teach Glimmer at the start of the series: that sometimes you have to be on the defensive when you want to attack. I was surprised as the episode ended, as I assumed we would get some hint at a future with Shadow Weaver returning, but we don't see her. In a way, this makes me more curious about what could be done, as I imagine she's sitting and plotting in the cell Catra threw her in. It's strange in a way that by the end of the episode, regardless of if the Horde wins the battle, they've dealt a massive blow to the rebellion. Unlike past attempts at fighting the rebellion that just saw small villages go down, Catra's planning allowed the Horde to come right to the rebellion's doorstep. They also still have the power of the Black Garnet, and Entrapta only learning more and more about the runestones and First Ones tech. Interestingly, I'm only now realizing that, episodes later, the princesses are still completely unaware of Entrapta's survival. This is both a massive hindrance to them, not just because they don't have Entrapta's help, but because they don't know they could figure out how to deal with her. It's also a plus for the Horde aside from the rebellion being at a disadvantage, as they have her help in finding new weapons with the tech. More than just an enjoyable season finale, this episode works effectively to set up the season to come, and I'm wondering what's coming next.
