While Misty and Colleen try to track down the Crane Sisters, Danny and Walker go after a rampaging Davos, and Ward opens up to Joy.
A monologue seemingly to the audience from Misty turns into her talking to Joy. She and Walker claim to not know where Davos is, and Walker says that although Danny said she delivered him to Davos, he was drugged at the time.
Misty warns Walker not to mess with her, and the latter shows a scar from a serrated blade, saying she can tell an idle threat as opposed to someone who'll follow through. Alternating between the questionings, both readily tell Misty about Walker's DID and how she assured Joy it wouldn't be a problem. Both are just as quick to explain how Davos needed Danny to transfer the heart of the dragon, and detail the tattooing from the Crane Sisters. Misty points out Joy has reason to fear Davos, asking why she chooses to be a piece of crap, and Joy says it's easy to judge someone by their actions but is never so simple. Ward and Colleen are frustrated that Misty won't arrest them, but she points out that along with only Walker seeming cooperative, an arrest would cause a media circus. Danny hopes to talk to Davos and convince him to stop, believing Davos would have killed him if he wanted to. The others are against it, and Ward says he'll call someone, but Danny says no when Misty says police would come and take out Davos. Colleen suggests they find a way to take Danny's power back, and they decide to find the Crane Sisters, leaving Danny behind to heal. Though Ward wants to follow, they remind him he needs to watch Danny, Walker, and Joy. In the other room, Joy and Walker talk about the latter lying, as she knows where Davos is, and her belief that they couldn't plead out of the situation. She then frees herself from her cuffs and tells Joy about a fire escape outside. Joy refuses to run, and when Walker reminds her that Davos will come for her, she asks that Walker get rid of him, bringing the option back since he is killing, a fact we see out in the city as he and Chen mark more names off his list. Danny invites Ward to meditate with him as the latter rages about Joy, but Walker enters, offering to take Danny to Davos if they pay her enough to go away for good. Ward is against it, but Danny and Walker note her experience taking down the Iron Fist, and he scoffs at her $0.5 million demand. He mentions that Misty and Colleen won't like being left out, but Danny says getting Davos will work if they get the ritual. As Danny leaves, Ward asks Walker about Joy knowing he was in NA, and she reveals her detailed knowledge of his day-to-day life.
Misty and Colleen chat as they look for the Crane Sisters, and the former wonders why the latter is so willing to do all this if she quit the life.
She again suggests that Colleen become a cop, but Colleen believes her trusting of Bakuto, who turned out evil, means her instincts can't be trusted. Misty counters that people can change, and says she would prefer having a partner who doesn't always think they're right. Continuing his rampage, Davos arrives at a Hatchet chop-shop, where he brutalizes the men inside as Chen listens to music outside. Some of Rhyno's gang are nearby when it happens, and Davos takes note of them as he and Chen leave. Joy exits the apartment room to find Ward waiting. They bicker about which of them is worse, and though understanding her anger, he wonders why she hurt Danny. She brings up how he tried to have Danny killed twice, and he reminds her he thought Danny was an imposter trying to destroy their company, which she says he did. Ward tells her to blame him, their father, and the Hand for what happened, but she believes it makes no sense for Danny to see himself as a hero. After Ward apologizes for her injury, Joy claims she is glad it happened, because she saw the others as they were and realized what she needed to be. Joy is annoyed he keeps saying he protected her from their father, until he finally snaps, explaining how the man beat him. He breaks down revealing he often wanted to escape with her, but she points out that he never did, and storms out.
At Walker's apartment, Danny demands against her advice that she stay hidden, as killing Davos is Plan B. She agrees, urging him to be careful while Davos has the fist.
Danny asks about the "game" she played meeting him, and she says it was never like that. She explainis numerous triggers that cause her to switch personalities, from stress and adrenaline bringing her out to water and bright lights bringing out Mary. Admitting it's tough, she claims she wants to move to Arizona and simply watch birds fly, which Danny takes as the reason for the money, and they leave. Misty and Colleen find the funeral home Joy told them about for the Crane Sisters. Inside they get an icy welcome as one of three women is suspicious of their intent. They play dumb as Misty asks about Davos, but when she and Colleen get specific about Danny, one starts to cave, mentioning that they owe Davos nothing. Misty threatens to charge them as accessories, but is forced to leave Colleen to deal with two of the combative women as she chases the other, who is after "the needles." She quickly catches the woman, knocking her from her bike with her prosthetic, finding strange tattoo needles, and Colleen is able to subdue the others. Walker and Danny find the place Davos held him, and he says he felt the dragon's heart get pulled from him and how painful it was. Not trusting Walker, he demands the syringe. She calls him paranoid, but he believes her willingness to talk about her condition was a tactical move to put him at ease. Elsewhere, Mrs. Yang finds her murdered men, and the episode ends as Ward and Joy open up, Misty and Colleen learn about the ritual, and Danny and Walker face Davos.
This episode had some excellent fighting in it, but more than that I enjoyed the growth the numerous characters experienced here.
The most prominent area for this was for Ward and Joy, as the former finally had a chance to truly open up to his sister and get her talking. Throughout this season, the details of what Davos and Joy were doing were a mystery, and there reasons for doing it were perhaps more hidden. Of course Joy did have moments where she would get mad at Ward and give a sliver of how she was feeling, but it wasn't until now that we really get to hear what she's been experiencing and thinking. She has a point in bringing up everything that happened in their lives after Danny showed up, but at the same time Ward is correct in that Danny wasn't malicious. Her feelings about the situation go further than just the fact that Ward lied to her, as she mentions to him that she wants to come to the situation on her own terms and decide if she wants him back in her life. In one admittance that likely surprised Ward as it did me, she also says she has wanted to be able to open her own business and be independent from him. This was always a possibility once she got away from Rand, but given the story's circumstances it felt like Ward would've been right to feel paranoid about her intentions, heck I figured her company was part of Davos's plan. Ward also saw a lot of improvement this episode, continuing the trend of improving him beyond the self-absorbed jerk he started as. We saw his father clobber him in season one at times that he was angry, but never got the full details of what went on. The fact that he was able to pass off his injuries as skiing and car accidents says a lot about the magnitude of the abuse he faced, both physically and psychologically. At the same time, he seems to have misunderstood exactly how Joy was feeling and failed to realize that she needed to deal with her own issues, rather than having him decide when they should have a good sibling relationship again. Both talking with Misty and the fight with the Crane Sisters touched on a part of Colleen's advancement as well, as she continues to struggle with escaping the life. Misty's words seemed mainly a hint at the possibility of them becoming the Daughters of the Dragon in the future, and the fight was more of a look at Colleen's true feelings that even she doesn't realize. As the fight starts, Colleen get a strange grin on her face, and later she smiles again as the sisters charge her. This suggests that although she doubts herself because of Bakuto, Colleen actually enjoys doing this, which again could lead to a team with Misty. The fight she had was impressive as always, but while I'm enjoying the improved fights and story of this season, there's an issue here. Danny has vastly improved from how we saw him in the past, from when he constantly got beat while yelling that he is the Immortal Iron Fist. However, it often feels this season like the true best combat happens for Colleen, rather than Danny, as she does more impressive and fun-to-watch things. Obviously there is the setup of Danny facing Davos to take back his fist, but thus far he's still had some of the weaker fights of the characters we've gotten so far. At the same time, like I said, Danny has improved, and one way I saw that here was how he saw through Mary's guise. As such an honest and hopeful person, Danny is also often rather gullible and dense, but here he saw right through her plan. I had found it strange that Walker would tell him so much about herself, especially because of she was sharing essentially her weaknesses. I didn't consider what Danny realized, however, and was impressed at how he put together that she was trying to get him to relax so she could double-cross him. The more I see this season, it feels like more of a shame that many Marvel shows have been cancelled, as after a weak first season, Iron Fist was truly starting to hit its stride. We still at least have this, however, and I'm excited to see how Danny goes about taking his powers back from his former friend and "brother."
