Callum is determined to have Claudia and Soren get along with Rayla, but his elf friend feels certain the two can't be trusted.
Soren can't bring himself to attack the sleeping Rayla, and asks Claudia to wake the elf, only for Rayla to suddenly spring off the ground. She reveals she countered Claudia's sleep spell by pricking herself with a thorn on the rose she was grasping.
The two go back and forth, with the lumbering Soren getting a few good hits, but she catches him off guard by successfully sweeping his legs. Claudia distracts her long enough for Soren to knock her into the mud, and his sister throws a liquid on Rayla's swords before heating them and the mud. Though dropping her sword, Rayla kicks hot mud into Soren's face, but before the fight can continue, Callum rushes in, asking them to stop. The two sides are flabbergasted as he tries to calm things, glad to see them but unhappy they're attacking, and he reveals how he and Ezran left willingly. They grudgingly agree to wait to fight until he can explain further, and he leads his old friends away, blushing as Claudia commends him for being daring. In Katolis, Viren ignores Gren on the way to the now-empty cell, where he lights some candles and claims this will be the day the mirror reveals its secrets.
Back with the others, Callum is trying to look nice for Claudia. Ezran hopes she isn't mad, since Callum chained her to a wall and stole, then broke, her primal stone.
Soren irritates his sister as she prepares for the day by hypothesizing the boys befriended Rayla because she bit them, infecting them with "Moonshadow Madness." He reminds her of their father's mission, still hiding his secret aspect, and suggests they stuff the boys in sacks to bring them along. Reminding him the boys are their friends, Claudia suggests talking first, and gets an idea when he suggests "buttering them up." She makes pancakes that even Rayla admits are good, until she reveals she used a hint of dark magic to make them fluffy. Rayla becomes suspicious when Claudia suggests they return home with the egg, and Claudia is shocked when they reveal the egg hatched, finding Zym adorable. Rayla brings her back to normality, and she claims Zym could still be dangerous, but Callum remains determined to get Zym home before they return to Katolis. Remembering his own suggestion, Soren claims the boys need to return home because Harrow misses them, earning him glares from Claudia and Rayla. Soren gloats about the look Rayla gave him to Claudia, only for his sister to chastise him for lying to the boys. He counters that she used innocent animals for pancakes. He feels the time for talk is over and they should use muscle, but Claudia asks for one more day to convince Callum using trust instead.
Meanwhile, Rayla tries to convince Callum that they can't trust Claudia and Soren, struggling to admit she knows they're lying because of Harrow's death.
Claudia interrupts and takes Callum for a walk, and after assuring her he doesn't like Rayla, he interrupts her desire to tell of home to reveal he broke the stone. He decides to take Rayla to see the areas of moon magic while Soren, grappling with having to hurt Ezran, decides to cause an "accident." He easily convinces the kids to hear him out on a fun, yet dangerous idea. Callum introduces Claudia to Lujanne, who walks off after Claudia gets overexcited and behaves strangely, allowing them to enter her large building. As they inspect runes on the walls, Callum shares his sadness at being unable to do magic, and Claudia, feeling he's judgmental of hers, offers him dark magic. She claims the good thing about this kind of magic is you don't have to have the energy inside; you just squeeze it out of other creatures. Noticing his disgust, Claudia says she feels humans, who were born without magic, found their own way to do amazing things. Still unnerved, Callum says it's not for him. Outside, Soren has prepared his idea for Ezran: a zip line which he proves is safe by going down first. When Ezran follows but realizes Zym didn't hold his wings open on the way down, Soren suggests he go again, but go first this time. Callum takes Claudia to the ruins, where he basks in her looks. He decides to take her to the Nexus, but suggests they go after dark. Back outside, Soren sends Ezran down the zipline again, but as he moves for the peg, Rayla hops down from the tree. She forces him to follow Ezran, and he only does so after tightening the peg, which she sees wobble after pulling on the rope.
The two groups finally collide in this episode, and though the fighting is soon broken up, there is quite a bit of tension thanks to Viren's secret mission for Soren.
He has information Claudia doesn't, and through the whole episode you're wondering if he's about to do something to the boys, especially Ezran. Soren is a very moral guy, so he eliminates his concerns by deciding to cause an "accident," like Viren suggested. Despite having a conscience, Soren is becoming manipulative in a way thanks to his father's manipulation. Because he wants to be a good guy, he's having to make excuses for his actions, which he'll have to do a lot following his dad. I did wonder why Rayla doesn't hear any of Soren's dark planning this episode; she clearly watches him due to her distrusting him, but only seems to catch the moment Ezran goes down the zipline for the second time. Storywise, it's obvious this was to keep her from having more concrete evidence for Callum, but I still think it's strange she didn't hear anything specific. I'm liking the continued gag with Soren of him claiming that "sweeping the leg" isn't a real thing, only for the others to keep trying it. This episode, he gets proven wrong directly, as although Rayla is unable to grab or knock away his legs with her blades, she's able to flip him after he steps on them. Soren's determination to get back to Katolis quickly caused him to surprisingly be more forceful than Claudia, which I actually didn't expect. However, Claudia is intent on getting Zym back, and we still don't know her exact reasoning other than seeing him as a weapon. At it's base, this would likely just be because the "enemy" would have a dragon, but if Zym is going back to his mother, that means there already is one. She's obviously known the Dragon Prince was there for a long time, so there must be more to what she knows than she's saying. It surprisingly seems like part of why she's taking her time is she might like Callum, though she could just be tricking him. She seems to dress up for Callum when it comes time for their "date," but it could just be related to how she said she was going to use trust against him. With the dark magic she's so openly using, I'm surprised Lujanne is allowing at least Claudia to stay, and even lets Callum take her to the Nexus. In the past, she said she's the one who guards the Nexus from mortals finding it, and has shown incredible disdain for dark magic. Now, she directly interacts with Claudia, and simply walks about because of how weird she is. I had expected she'd put up more of a fight and prevented her from snooping. I also found myself wondering if Lujanne would be able to know Claudia was the one who cast the dark magic she had a bad feeling about. If this were the case, and some kind of magical signature were on Claudia, I feel like Lujanne would be more uneasy about her and Soren staying. Lujanne just has strange moments throughout this episode, even giving Rayla seemingly backward advice about the truth. Rayla comes to her about what she needs to do with Callum, believing the truth needs to be revealed, but the illusion mage suggests secrets just need to be accepted. In a way, she has a point, claiming we know what the moon is even when parts of it are shady, as no one reveals every bit of themselves to people. It also just makes sense she would believe something like this, considering her whole life is based around illusions. However, I definitely side with Rayla in believing it's much better to be as honest as possible with the people you care about. In this moment, she actually needs to, as aside from is being right for Callum to know Harrow died, it's the way she can prove Soren was lying. Speaking of true selves, there's a moment with Viren and the mirror where we might've gotten insight into his character. At this point, the mirror is reminding me of things like Snow White's classic magic mirror, a trope often used in fantasy stories, and possibly even Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's Mirror of Erised. We don't even know yet what the mirror is supposed to do, nor does Viren; we just know the dragons had it close, suggesting it's important. There's a moment where Viren, frustrated as he thinks the mirror could truly be an ordinary object, explodes and rants about how worthless it is. As he chastises is, the view we get is of his reflection, so perhaps he was actually starting to go on a rant about himself, rather than the mirror. We've seen him be strict on others, so it's easy to assume he's also harsh on himself, and would find any setback to be a massive failure. Though he's doing terrible things, Viren at least seems at this point to want Katolis and the humans to prosper, so at this moment he could be upset with himself. We don't have to empathize with Viren's actions to consider that having so many things in the way of your goals, and something seemingly important you've been spending time on turning out to be nothing, would be frustrating. Whatever he has planned, Viren's getting more bold with his actions back home, and the boys are in danger with Soren intent on getting them back. They're obviously not going to stop trying to get Zym back to his mother, but they might have to escape their friend's clutches, all while Viren continues plotting.
