Trying to introduce Adora to Angella doesn't go as planned, leading to Adora meeting a strange woman named Razz, and Catra faces punishment for her failure.
Adora is awestruck upon reaching Bright Moon, and she and Bow go in the back way, scaling a cliff to Glimmer's room, while the princess recharges and deals with Angella.
Inside, Bow has Adora put on a robe to hide that she's from the Horde, and when Angella sees Glimmer, she chastises her daughter until the girl collapses. Once Glimmer has recharged, she tells her mom about going after First Ones tech and finding something better, which she says she'll tell her about later. In Glimmer's room, Adora is saddened when Bow says the people would form a mob if they knew a Horde soldier was there, but he assures her they'll come to trust her. Glimmer enters with the news Angella is coming, and they are hesitant when she says they should introduce her to She-Ra first, rather than a Horde soldier. Adora reminds her she doesn't have a handle on these powers yet, but Glimmer assures her it'll be simple and goes to buy time with Bow. After knocking things over with her first attempt, Adora notices their horse outside and goes to it in her robe. She tries the magic phrase again, but nothing happens. She stays the same no matter how many times she tries, and a final attempt shoots the horse with energy, transforming it into a winged unicorn. Horrified and confused, the horse rampages, and trying to stop it results in the people of Bright Moon attacking, seeing Adora as a Horde soldier. She runs away as Glimmer leads Angella to her room, but Bow finds it empty, and Angella is angered after guards tell her about Adora.
Back in the Fright Zone, a soldier named Lonnie (Dana Davis) telling tales about how powerful and menacing She-Ra was, but Catra scoffs that she's all show.
Lonnie laughs that Catra didn't get a hit on her despite getting so close, and though the latter angrily says she knows She-Ra's secret, she refuses to share it; Lonnie warns her to watch herself now that Adora isn't protecting her. Adora berates herself in the woods, and the sword acts strangely just before she hears a noise that leads her to a woman nearby, Madame Razz (Grey Delisle) Razz mistakes her for someone named Mara and gets supplies to pick berries. When Adora says she doesn't know her, the old woman realizes she's right, mentioning that a new person is holding the sword. After she shrugs this off, Adora asks about the sword, but the woman scoffs that "Mara" brings it all the time; she laughs when Adora says she's alone, as she has her broom and her friend Loo-Kee, who is always hiding. They walk to a First Ones ruin, which Razz scales surprisingly quickly, but she falls after a surge of energy shocks her and reforms some structures. A bunch of stars are suddenly visible that Razz says she and Mara used to look at, but they're gone now; Adora wonders why she seems to remember these stars. A flash of memories about her arrival as a baby and Light Hope causes Adora to beg Razz to tell her about herself and the sword; Razz says they simply came for berries.
Upset at her friend's "betrayal," Catra tears up her bed, and Shadow Weaver enters to berate her for failing to bring back Adora.
Catra retorts they didn't know princesses would be there, and continues her sass, saying Adora defected and she's thinking of her friend was right. Enraged and tired of Catra's insubordination, Shadow Weaver decides the cadet will instead face punishment from Lord Hordak. Adora grows frustrated as Razz still gives no answers, saying neither side will take her and she's not sure of the right answer; Razz stops her as they come upon a battlefield. With Adora horrified that the Horde would ravage things in this way, Razz says the princesses used to protect them, and now only care about their own land. She says Adora brave, loyal, and afraid, like Mara, pointing out she ran into the woods and asked the first old lady she found what she should do. Razz continues that Adora needs to stop waiting for someone to tell her the right thing to do, and the girl decides what the Horde is doing is wrong. She follows her horse's cries to find the Horde trapping it. Finally able to transform, she frees her horse and knocks away the soldiers, who refused to stand down. After she destroys their equipment, Razz hops around gleefully and calls her by name, tossing her sword which she had used before as a projectile. Soldier Grizzlor (Keston John) takes aim at her horse, so She-Ra steps in but takes a direct blast. As her horse deals with Grizzlor, Razz rescues her and escapes. Finally sure what to do, Adora returns to Bright Moon where Angella makes her decision, while in the Fright Side Catra is brought before Lord Hordak (Keston John).
So far I'm liking the pace of characters being introduced and plot elements being added, especially here with Razz.
In the short time she's been out of the Fright Side, Adora has learned so many things, yet the biggest mystery to her is still herself. Viewers who know the original story already know Adora's secret past, but with how this reboot has changed some things, I wonder what interesting things they'll add. Adora is in a difficult position when it comes to learning her own history, as the only ones who seem to know her are the villains who kidnapped her and would be unlikely to easily give the information, and Light Hope, who seems limited to First Ones tech. The ruins she's come across so far have been key in her memory flashes, but they're in such poor states and she has no understanding of how they work. Last episode gave us She-Ra's horse companion, and now we've already seen it transform and later get its classic name. Along with this, we get a small role from Grizzlor, the entrance of the evil Lord Hordak, and of course the quirky Razz. We don't get much of Hordak, but what little there is of him radiates a strong presence and his total demand for respect. Keston John does well as both Grizzlor and Hordak, giving the former a gruff, brutish voice while the evil lord gets a more sinister, dark sound. Grey Delisle gives a great performance as Razz, of course, expressing the oddball nature of the character while hinting at deep knowledge behind She-Ra. This has me interested in what more she'll do in later episodes, as along with knowing She-Ra's name, she clearly knew the previous wielder of the sword of power. Aimee Carrero has a shining moment after Adora's realization about what to do. After becoming She-Ra again, she frees her steed and turns to the soldiers, ordering them to stop what they're doing and leave. The ferocity in her voice when she delivers the line expresses a great deal of confidence and power, and is impressive to hear. One part of the show that is being consistently worked on is the relationship and mirroring of Adora and Catra as they head down different paths. Adora was always fooled by the Horde's words and has decided to defect upon finding people who truly care about and want to help her. Catra, on the other hand, was smart enough to know but seemed to not care, hinting at a sinister side, and is surrounded by those who will continue raising her cruelly and cause her to become darker while Adora heads for the light. With the story moving along nicely and fun performances enhancing the story, I'm ready to follow Adora as she unlocks the secrets of her past.
