After a brush with death leads to an awkward encounter, Elfo's lies make things complicated for the group, aided by a powerful drug trip. After a night of heavy drinking, Bean and the others, having slept in the street, are sept up and tossed into a pit with plague victims. Bean and Elfo freak out when the pit's flame is lit, and she starts talking about missed opportunities like how they never got to experience "bliss" together. Elfo says they still can and moves in for a kiss, only to learn she was talking about a drug, and Luci reveals a ladder right behind them he saw when they fell in. Embarrassed, Elfo claims he wasn't trying to kiss her as the head to a drug house, claiming he has a girlfriend. They prod him for info inside, so he snaps that she's a tall woman with red hair and a single eye, and that she lives far beyond the Unpassable Mountains. Bean starts tripping and has a vision where she follows Elfo to a large flower with an enormous woman inside, and it soon closes into the shape of a heart. She becomes convinced he was telling the truth and the group gets kicked out, so they head back to the castle. There, she tasks the knights with finding Elfo's girlfriend, and we get a short musical cut of them searching. We get a typical Zøg joke and some "tv" gags, and soon the knights are back with a large crate, and inside is a woman fitting Elfo's description. Urged on by Bean and unwilling to tell the truth, Elfo tries and fails to talk to the woman, who merely roars and kicks him away. Zøg has her sent below the dungeon to the cheese cellar, and along the way Elfo claims he didn't stick up for her because he believes in her strength. Bean has the knights roll back a giant cheese wheel covering the cellar, and shoves him inside with the giant as it is blocked again. Elsewhere, we finally see the return of Merkimer, who laments his fate with Luci, missing his power and wealth now that the women are gone. Luci, whom women flock to, agrees to advise Merkimer at the "great cost" of letting him ride the former prince. He checks a magic crystal for singles in the area, only for it to say no. Bean later has Elfo released from the cellar, and pretends the rough time was simply a night of great sex. Bean decides they should take the giant out to eat, where they again see Chazz, now handing out flowers. Elfo buys some for the giant, causing her to sneeze, which lets the knight Turbish's horse and its saddle out of her mouth. She suddenly reveals she can talk, as the horse had been stuck in her throat, revealing she can't believe their violence, considering she's even a grad student. Elfo stops her from telling the truth about him, and on the side she reveals her name is Tess as he begs for her compliance. She agrees to keep up the ruse under the condition he get her a working eye to replace her missing one, and rejoins the meal. At the castle, Luci convinces Merkimer to try attracting girls by playing up his sad, pitiful appearance, but this only disgusts them, and they go to Luci.
Elfo goes to Luci, who agrees to help on the same condition he gave Merkimer, leading the elf to the crystal. It says there is nothing around that could replace Tess' eye, but when Luci leaves, Elfo decides he could use the crystal itself. He gives her the crystal after she gets a makeover for the night's dance, where Merkimer becomes frustrated with Luci and the crystal's power has some interesting side effects. Honestly, despite it being a telling moment of Elfo's character, it surprised me that Bean was still so oblivious to Elfo's feelings for her. Considering Luci constantly hinted at it and he got so jealous at the party, where he even started ot open up about his feelings, it's surprising she didn't know. Elfo's reaction to her rejection definitely makes sense, though it is a bit overdone because of how often stories use a character's lie that then grows out of proportion. Obviously, his personality hasn't changed drastically to be more deceitful like Luci, but the embarrassment he felt about getting turned down was obviously too much to take at the time. Aside from having his feelings out there, it seemed to him that Bean was feeling the same way because of talking about "bliss," only to be crushed to learn she was talking about something else and he felt something she didn't. The show did take jobs at how overdone this idea is, with Luci interrupting his "girlfriend" description by assuming she must live super far away, to where they wouldn't know her. The description he gave led me to some interesting thoughts, as when he said she only had one eye, the picture I got in my head was a literal cyclops. Having her simply have an eyepatch was more interesting to me, though, and curious after she said she was a grad student, and of course led to him giving her the magic crystal to use as a replacement. I was glad to see Merkimer come back, as I'd wondered how he was handling his situation, though I find it odd he's just staying in Dreamland, rather than going home when his family did. He clearly hasn't fully changed his personality, which is good to see, because it would have been boring if being turned into a pig immediately caused him to, in a cheesy way, become a better "human." He has still learned from his case, however, and tries to learn from Luci how he can interact with people despite looking the way he does. There were some good gags in the episode, like the song that plays during the knights' journey and the cheese cellar being blocked with a cheese wheel, like we normally see a stone wheel covering doors in movies. Tess is a fun new character and I hope she remains at least somewhat consistent, as it's interesting how for once, the giant, rather than being a big, dumb brute, is actually the most intelligent person around. I guess I'll see soon enough if she does stick around, and with Elfo's feelings finally laid out, his relationship with Bean likely just got incredibly complicated.
