Midoriya managed to save Kota from Muscular, but there's still work to be done as the separated groups deal with members of the League of Villains. Tomura and Kurogiri, at the League's hideout, discuss the choice to send in the Vanguard. Tomura explains the situation like a video game; they previously tried to take on the most powerful boss with weak weapons. Here, however, his goal is to begin sowing fear among heroes and citizens, as even if the Vanguard fails, cracks will be made in the hero society. Midoriya, while heavily damaged after his fight with Muscular, realizes the other villains could be as powerful as the brute, and knows they're at least after Bakugou. He asks Kota to help by putting out the forest fire, and rushes back toward camp with the boy on his back. Aizawa, meanwhile, manages to dodge Dabi's blast and erases his quirk, then tangles him up with his scarf. In a show of his more brutal abilities, he breaks Dabi's arm, threatening to break the other if he shares no information. When Iida, Koji, Mashirao, and Mineta show up, Aizawa is distracted for long enough that Dabi breaks free. Aizawa tries to recapture him, but is shocked to find his scarf going through Dabi's body, which liquidates and melts. Back in the forest, we find the real Dabi, still feeding the fire. He tells the villain Twice that his clone was too weak, and Twice quickly goes from berating Dabi to saying Aizawa was simply powerful. Dabi tells him to make another clone to preoccupy the heroes, but Twice seems to have another plan in mind. Midoriya runs into Aizawa by chance, and gives him Kota, explaining he needs to get Mandalay to get her, and by extension everyone, information on the villains. Aizawa worries about how Midoriya is running just on adrenaline, but lets him leave, giving him another thing to tell Mandalay. Arriving just in time to block an attack on Mandalay from Spinner, Midoriya tells her about Bakugou being a target and that Aizawa has given the students permission to engage in combat. Aizawa, heading back to camp, worries that he should have told Midoriya to return immediately after giving the messages. Kota asks if Midoriya will be okay, expressing his regret for punching the young hero before and not saying thank you after being saved from Muscular. Aizawa assures him that Midoriya has no intention of dying, and says to put more effort into the thanks. Mandalay gets her new information to everyone, and an angered Bakugou refuses to back down, rushing the villain Moonfish. The latter extends his gruesome, blade-like teeth that Todoroki is forced to defend against. Bakugou, knowing Midoriya is responsible for Mandalay's order that he specifically stand down, continues engaging, but is kept at bay by Moonfish's teeth. Todoroki, still with another student on his back, continues using his ice to defend, and cautions Bakugou against using his explosions, which could exacerbate the fire. With Class 1B, meanwhile, Tetsutetsu rushes to engage any villain he can find, but Itsuka stops him. Realizing Mandalay doesn't know about the gas, she theorizes that a villain must be where they're heading, controlling the gas cloud from the center. Tetsutetsu immediately runs into the denser area, where he soon finds the villain Mustard, who instantly turns and shoots a pistol when the former bursts in. The shot breaks Tetsutetsu's mask, and Mustard chides him for his reckless attack, saying a U.A. student should be more intelligent. Itsuka tries a sneak attack, but Mustard immediately shoots at her, resulting in Tetsutetsu protecting her and taking the shot to his head. The villain explains he is able to feel everything in the gas, and tell when and where they move. The remainder of the episode focuses on the two struggling to overcome Mustard, who spends his time mocking the two for what he perceives as U.A. arrogance. Midoriya reappears at the end as he makes a discovery heading to Bakugou. Seeing more with Aizawa was definitely a favorite part of the episode for me. When I initially started this series, he reminded me in part of Kakashi from Naruto, due to being a somewhat lazy teacher with incredible hidden skill. Last episode, the most we saw of him was a joke, then rushing out to fight just before Dabi attacked. With this episode, we get to see him on the offensive, in typical fashion. While we've yet to see what Dabi is fully capable of, especially since this was a clone, it's still impressive how quickly Aizawa is able to take him down. It was odd that he didn't tell Midoriya to go back to camp, rather than asking for the villains's information and going himself, but his worry for his students is visible as he berates himself after for not telling Midoriya to come back after talking to Mandalay. And speaking of Midoriya, it's somewhat frustrating to continue seeing him put his body through much punishment, regardless of his heroic intentions. As it is, he already damaged his right hand enough to leave it scarred, when Recovery Girl said she would refuse to heal anymore injuries to that level. As a manga reader, I know he does in the future get better control over his powers, and finds a fighting style that better prevents any breakage. For now, however, fans have to watch as, like Aizawa said, Midoriya pushed himself way too far again and is now going only on adrenaline. His need to jump in to protect anyone, Bakugou in this case, is bound to cause trouble in the future. Perhaps the best sign of things to come was shown with Tetsutetsu. Despite his hardheadedness, he has the best of intentions and can shine as a hero. He suffers from the same err in judgment as Midoriya, more willingly putting himself at risk, but in his case it's less of a problem because of his hardening. His bigger problem is simply being more brawn than brain, unlike Midoriya, who is learning to control his brawn to combine with the brain he already had. Tetsutetsu is somehwat able to do this with the help of Itsuka, who is able to get him to stop and think, having figured out the gas situation. With villains getting taken out but others still around, the next episode is bound to have the heroes continuing to struggle with the madness of the surprise situation.
