While Davos tries to retrieve his bowl, Danny prepares for their showdown, and Colleen is forced to consider his offer.
Following their cage match, Danny takes Colleen to the room he'd train in, saying he would come to it if he didn't have an excuse to use the fist fighting crime.
Colleen admits she knew something was up when he disappeared nightly, and he agrees when she reminds him she warned not to over-exert himself. Though she's still against taking the fist, Danny is sure he can't improve on himself if he's holding it, because of tempting and influential the power is. She reminds him that she didn't ask for the fist's responsibility anymore than he did, and when he brings up K'un-Lun, she says that's not where they are. Collen says he can't just pawn the fist off after all his training because he doesn't want it now, but he says the problem is he does want it, but knows what it does to him. Despite his insistence, Colleen says he is the Iron Fist, and needs to take back the power when the time comes. At Bayard, BB gets a call from Crank, who tricks him into revealing his location so he can tell Davos, who is questioning Joy. Joy tries to lie about what she did, and though Chen at first buys that she sent BB to the FBI, she finally admits she's helping Danny willingly because Davos is crazy. While she accuses him of being no better than those he kills, BB shows up with news of Bayard and the Triads within, and Davos shoves Joy over the railing.
While Danny practices hand motions he found in the scroll, Misty shows up, having gone over Pike's head and gotten a police force and a no-knock order.
She also contacted some marshals and got Frank Choi, who has agreed to talk to Colleen before entering witness protection due to snitching on the Tigers. He seems hesitant in some areas, but tells Colleen she was correct about the odd payments in his book and gives her the code. Though he doesn't know her name, Choi says the woman who gave the box claimed it was made from the bow of a pirate ship in a story about a princess and a fisherman. Colleen recognizes the story as something her mom made up, and Choi is led away as she leaves the room, upset to realize her mom could be alive. Danny asks if the story could actually be real, but Colleen brushes him off, and though he says they can look for her mom, she goes outside. Danny tells Misty about his plan with the fist, saying it could work if they put Colleen through the ceremony using part of Davos's blood and Danny's tattoo to give her one. Misty goes outside, where Colleen laments that her life is a lie and the closest thing she has to a healthy relationship is Misty, who feels the same. To Colleen's surprise, Misty says that, while Danny would obviously be a good person to have the fist, she would make good use of it, too. She then goes back in advising Colleen to figure things out with Danny, because she and her team will be moving on Davos in the morning.
Out in the streets, Walker finishes reading her report, then burns it, telling Ward it was smart of him not to read it.
He wants to go after Joy, but she decides to stock up first to take on Davos, and later she and Ward meet Turk by the river to get guns. After she chooses a gun and grabs some ammo, Ward asks for something as well, surprising her the fact he killed his dad. Once they leave, we cut to Joy, bleeding profusely but alive. Her phone is broken, so she crawls away, but ends up at Chen's feet. He gloats about her condition, explaining he won't kill her because Davos wants to either kill her in front of Danny or vice versa. When he turns down a bribe, she is disgusted to realize he's going along with Davos's ideology, and to his surprise, she doesn't beg for her life, instead curling up to sleep. Danny and Colleen arrive at Bayard, as Chung called about the Triads, and he leads them downstairs where the groups, poorly manned, plan to attack in two hours. Colleen demands that they leave, telling them about the kids upstairs, but the gangs feel the people are safer with them there, and Yang tells them about Mr. Yip's death. After Colleen tells them about the police force, Danny promises to not let them down again, and when Yang says they want things to end, Danny states he'll end it tonight. BB Interrupts to deliver the bowl, and tells Danny and Colleen about Davos training his gang, and how Joy helped him get the bowl and is likely in danger. They decide to call Misty, but are distracted when Chung shows them the gang has shown up, and tell the Triads to get the civilians to safety. Liu is still determined to fight, but Danny reminds him what Davos can do to trained soldiers, so Yang decides to get the innocents out. While she deals with them, Danny tells Colleen they have to take a stand and catch Davos; fortunately Chung reveals they have a stash of confiscated drugs they can use to incapacitate him. BB slips away while they plan this, and the episode hits its climax and finishes out as Davos shows up for the fight, a rescue arrives for Joy, and Colleen makes a choice.
I felt mixed about this episode to a degree, but the climactic fight is excellent and you can tell the writers wanted to take things in a new direction.
It was strange enough at the end of last episode when Danny said he thinks Colleen should be the new Iron Fist, but at the same time, his insistence is understandable. One of the common complaints about this show is that Danny hasn't really done much that could be considered impressive or make him seem like a great fighter. Throughout the first season especially, Danny would consistently get defeated, and of course in Defenders it was pretty hilarious to see how easily Daredevil wrecked him. He has most definitely improved since then, but he still doesn't feel as amazing as he should, while Colleeen, as I've mentioned before, has been great to watch. It feels selfish in a way for Danny to just hoist this responsibility on Colleen, and while he has a point that the Fist is a tempting thing, it seems like it could make sense to get it back and then learn to deal with it. Obviously ideas for the future have been scrapped, at least for now, since Netflix purged numerous Marvel shows, but it seemed like Danny was hoping to improve and eventually take the fist back. It's still quite a thing to ask of Colleen, especially since she just learned her mom could be alive, and will likely try to find her. Another aspect that's likely scrapped, and I was frustrated didn't just go further this episode, was Danny's suggestion that there's more to her mom's story. Colleen was immediately cold as he tried to be there for her and made this suggestion, and I also wondered if maybe there was some importance to it. BB's naivety was a bit frustrating in this episode, as even if the gang is made of old friends, it should've crossed his mind that something was up, especially after learning about Rhyno's death, even if he got a lie about it. Joy showed a lot of tenacity and surprising strength in this episode, willing to call Davos out on his crap and surviving a hard fall that apparently injured her head. Walker and Ward don't show up much in this episode, but they get some entertaining moments, and Walker shows she has quite a lot planned to defeat Davos. It was good to see the Triad groups cooperating finally, and of course Yang is rightfully suspicious of trusting Danny and Colleen again after past failures. At the same time, Liu continued to make me just shake my head, as despite the things they know Davos can do, he's still gung-ho about taking him toe-to-toe. I cut the post off a smidge earlier in the episode than usual because a lot happens at the point I stopped, but it was all pretty impressive, I felt. With the showdown finally happening between Davos and Danny, who now has the bowl, and him trying to get Colleen to take the Fist, there's a lot of massive things to this episode with the interesting idea of a new Iron Fist.
